Who says you need a 4WD pickup or SUV to explore the outback? Certainly not my repair shop, that's for sure. In the distance are the mountains of the Stillwater Range, seen from the west side.

Come on in, the water's fine. Actually, there wasn't really any water in this mine, but a couple of others descended below the water table at their lowest points.

Though it looks like this was shot in daylight, it wasn't -- it's pitch black down there. When you do get close enough to an entrance to see a little natural light, it looks like pale white moonlight. Another shot in the same mine. Nice flat floor (for the rails perhaps), vertical walls, and high ceiling. Not all were so hospitable, even without the occasional cave-ins and rubble piles.

That cylinder is some kind of tank. This mine had a bunch of them, each connected to the last with what looked like a water pipe. Near this spot I found a stack of newspapers, with Lech Walensa and Solidarity on the front page. 1983?
