I bought my first Mac almost 9 years ago. BMUG, ( The Berkeley Macintosh Users Group ) has been there for me from the beginning. The Thursday night meetings, the online help, ( Planet BMUG ), the helpline, have all been very useful. Well no more Thursday meetings anymore. But the there are still meetings and the Planet is still alive. On the net, the Macintouch web page is my number one mac link. Updated daily, Macintouch reports the latest mac news, software updates, hardware developments in the Macworld. My favorite software link can be found at CNET's, Shareware.com. Good selection, well organized, and helpful search engines Another great software web site is the Version Tracker. Find the latest version of just about any Mac software. Version Tracker also has a hardware page. At MacSurfer's Headline News you'll find links to current articles about the Mac OS. MacSurfer's news also tracks popular Mac web sites. Another favorite of mine is ChezMarks MacPicks. Mark reviews the latest shareware releases complete with screenshots. Nice looking site . Best troubleshooting site gotta be MacFixit. If you're having a problem with your Mac you can bet its being tracked there. This page is updated at least 3 times a week. If you search the archives by my name, you'll find I made a few contributions. |

Well If you're gonna do the Internet thing, ya gotta have the tools. (Clicking on the names of software I mention takes you to the download site) I use Netscape 4.7.4 to browse the web. Microsoft Internet Explorer is my favorite browser for the Mac. Some prefer to use an ftp client to download files. My favorite is Fetch I also use Fetch to transfer files to my web site directory. For news and email I use Microsoft's Outlook Express. Another good free email client is Eudora Light. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a way to send messages to your net buddies in realtime. Don't do much IRC but when I do I use Ircle . |
