Basque proverb asserts that "All things that have names exist," and "To every name belongs a being."

In Dublin, the writer Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill found a full library drawer on Old Irish manuscripts devoted to "Unalive beings and things that don't exist." She marvelled, "But if they don't exist why does the card index about them stretch the length of my arm?"
