Evolution My work has always been about simplicity of form. Raising my pinchpot forms on legs placed an emphasis on the form. The tripod framed the bottom portion, and created an understated importance for each piece. Tying the lids closed created a sense of mystery, and as I did that, I realized Id never intended the pots to be used. Creating just the right finishing touches for these forms became an interesting journey. As the adornment process evolved, each pot seemed to have a piece of jewelry of its own. Initially, searching for ancient hand-crafted items to attach to each pot was satisfying, but that soon felt limited. Learning to fabricate metal allowed me to create an original adornment for each piece, which rounded out my personal experience of creating; somehow the process felt more whole. As my skill and vision as a metalworker increased, I noticed a different relationship evolving with my artwork. My metal designs took on an Art Deco feel to them and begged to be the focus of the finished works. And so I find myself back at the beginning. Simplicity of form. My pots are now a canvas for jewelry, which was never intended to be worn. Some of these pieces, or works similar to them, may be available for sale.
