DAVID ROSENTHAL POETRY WORKSHOPS
Summer and Weekend Poetry Workshops for Teens
"The Cazadero Poetry Guy"

These workshops are ideal for students who enjoy writing and want a chance to develop their style and craft, whether experienced with poetry or relatively new to it. All participants will develop a deeper understanding of poetry, broaden their "toolbox" of techniques, and have the chance to experiment with a variety of styles and approaches. The workshops will be fun, challenging, and eye-opening, and will leave students with skills and strategies that they can transfer to other areas of their writing and reading life.

ELEMENTS OF POETRY

Students will learn how to recognize and define key elements of the "poet's toolbox," and how and why poets use those elements. Students will read examples by master poets, and practice applying new "tools" in excercises and drafts.

WRITING AND CRITIQUE

Each session will take students through all parts of the writing process. Students will spend a great deal of their time in the workshop actually writing. Students will learn to give and receive feedback in a structured, supportive environment.

PUBLISHING AND PERFORMANCE

We will discuss the various ways poets share and publish their work and the reasons why they share their work. Each session will end with a reading for parents either at the workshop site, or at a nearby cafe.
