Better bars for better Ergos

I have added Pro-Taper bars to my GS with the aid of Ricardo Kuhn's great bar risers. This was a half-day's effort for two people, and the results are pretty satisfying. The bike is much easier to swing through turns now, and my long arms are a bit happier with the lower and further forward reach.

Ricardo is a mechanical and ergonomics wizard. He has made several unique inventions for his bikes, some of his work can be seen here. I'm 6' 6'' tall, so I asked for a set of risers as low as he could make them. His normal risers are 20 mm taller. This may not be the optimal positioning for long tours, so I'll get a set of the higher risers for long trips. They're quite easy to swap back and forth, two minutes max.

UPDATE: The bars and risers shown here have worked out perfectly over the last 4000 miles, including a weekend trip from Berkeley to Death Valley and back. Long slabs are comfortable, and the bike is very happy on twisty roads.

The new risers completely cover the old mounting points. We polished the aluminum so they look extra fancy and pretty. Even though the risers move the mounting point up and back, the Pro-Taper bars have less rise and less sweep, to place my hands lower and further forward.

This shows the furthest forward position, I've moved them back from here a bit already.

Incredibly clean look, and the silver bars are a perfect match to the bike.

Almost done, just need the bar-end weights and the BMW hand guards.

Ricardo is a friendly fellow, and he's happy to work with you to get bars and risers that fit you to a "T". The bike is nicer to ride now, obviously not an "S" bike but with the lower bars it's a joy to sweep through corners and I have somewhat less wind on my helmet now. The Pro-Taper bars are also sturdy and less likely to bend when the bike gets dropped.
