2004   40" X 30" acrylic and copper leaf on canvas

This is a portrait of a Fulani man with his camel in the background. His eyes are red, I was later told, from chewing on kola nuts all day. I had attributed the redness to the fine sand always present in the air. Men working out in the desert wrap the long head cloths around their faces to protect their eyes during sand storms.
