Traffic Meeting

I am really sorry this notice is so late in coming as I would like to attend but can't.

I am particularly concerned about AC line 53 through the residential neighborhood above MacArthur. The bus comes every 15 minutes, mostly empty, speeding up Whittle Avenue. I would like to discuss changing this to a shuttle sized bus rather than a full size bus. I do not know if there will be an appropriate place to mention that but I would appreciate it.

It is wasteful, noisy, and dangerous to have an empty, large bus speeding through a residential area every 15 minutes.

Thelma Lawrence
In my opinion any additional buses running up and down Fruitvale Avenue will only add to the existing traffic nightmare. However, has there been any thought given to a parking ban on both sides of the street between MacArthur and Mandana? The large City of Oakland parking lot between Fruitvale and Dimond with egress on Sloan is never used to capacity and might be better utilized with a little publicity and removal of the 2-hour parking limit. The off-street Long's/Albertson parking lots are quite adequate, as are the Safeway and what I call the "MacDonald's" parking lots. Bank of America also has a very large, mostly unused lot with exits on both upper Dimond, as well as MacArthur.

As to Plan A being considered for the new #50 bus line route extension, I wonder who thought that one up. Automobile and truck traffic on Dimond Avenue between MacArthur and Montana has been hazardous for many years. Any time of day or night one can see and hear drivers screeching their tires and recklessly speeding toward the 580 Freeway entrance, or headed toward MacArthur, with absolutely no consideration for parked vehicles on both sides of Dimond, or for pedestrians attempting to cross this exceptionally narrow street.

Is it too late for non-business resident/consumers of the Dimond to have some say about AC Transit's potentially disastrous plans?

Our representative on the AC Transit Board of Directors sent a reply to Leslie Ann Jones's message:

I will try to attend the meeting. I am under the weather. I will forward your comments to planning re: the 53 and see if rerouting is possible. It is unlikely that a minivan will be used but we are currently reviewing routes. I will let you know.
