Become a World Federalist Activist

While the impact of World Federalism continues to grow, the movement’s success depends on support and activity from its individual members— you! Whether it means working alone or in a group, there is much for W.F.A. members to do. This page is designed to offer suggestions for member activity as well as provide a means for feedback.

An activist feedback coupon is provided below. Please use it to help us serve you more effectively. While they are all interrelated, you can jump to information here specifically on the The Partners for Global Change National Action Program, Chapters, and individual Community Activists -- or just scroll down to get the full picture.

The Partners for Global Change National Action Program
Members can very easily become highly effective activists by participating in WFA's Partners for Global Change National Action Program. The program is designed to promote coordinated, efficient and well-informed action on a national scale. Each month, an item on the World Federalist agenda is chosen for a project. An action program is developed around the subject, which usually has two basic components:

  • The Monthly Teleconference An interactive one-hour teleconference which provides a venue for groups from coast to coast to come together as a national team and hear expert speakers on the monthly issue, including Members of Congress, newspaper reporters, and leaders of other organizations.

    and

  • The Toolkit, which provides history, relevant facts, sample letters, and a detailed, well thought-out plan for activity.

Chapters
Chapter Benefits
It is suggested, but not necessary, that members participate in the The Partners for Global Change National Action Program with a local chapter. Through their structure and organization, chapters provide a vehicle that allows its members to minimize the time and effort needed to support the movement while maximizing their impact. A number of exponential gains are made possible when people work together; for instance:
  • Chapters are able to provide a strong united front, therefore projecting a political and media presence beyond that of individuals acting alone. They demonstrate that its members find the issues they support important enough to organize and act on behalf of.
  • Chapter members can gain from the type of intellectual synergy that occurs when several people come together to discuss their ideas freely.
  • Chapter members also reap the benefits of division of labor. By specializing, members enable the entire group to work more efficiently.
  • Chapters activity is fun and rewarding. It feels good to know you are taking part in a movement to create a better world. Members also have the chance to get to know and interact with other interesting people from their community

Chapter Structure
While a full-fledged group can have as many as seven officers, of which four would be considered "key", only two are needed to gain official chapter recognition. In a full chapter, there would be a Chapter Leader to organize and host (or, at times, find a host for) regular meetings, usually in conjunction with W.F.A’s monthly first-Saturday teleconferences. There would also be a Legislative Chair, who would oversee contacts with Members of Congress, et al; a Media Chair, who would keep in touch with the local media; a Membership Chair, who would keep track of members and welcome new ones; and a Fiscal Chair, to account for the chapter’s finances. Where possible, chapters might also have chairs for Networking with other organizations and for Youth Liaison, including contact with students.

As part of the reorganization over the past year of W.F.A.’s structure, in addition to individual votes possessed by each member attending the assembly of the National Council, a representative of a chapter may have one extra vote.
