ArtGates Offers free space online to artists, apparently without strings attached. Not a lot there yet, but the price is right.
Be a Part Of The GCCM! Based in Rhinebeck New York, this service will display up to six works on the web in exchange for a 30% comission on work sold. They set up the page for free, and can accept slides that are not digitized.

Just enter alt.sculpture in their query box to view all the postings for the last 6 months. Of course, this site is also good for catching up on other newsgroups as well.

Smooth-On Table of Contents Page The makers of a popular urethane mold rubber demonstrate its use in molding a reconstruction of Leonardo's famous unfinished horse, among other things.

Notes on Pulp Casting and Sculpting Mary Kay Colling, an artist from Rochester NY, describes how to make and use paper pulp for casting into molds and direct sculpture as well. You can also look at examples of her work, done using the techniques she describes.

Castable Soda Kiln Fairly detailed (and illustrated) documentation of a kiln-building project.

CLAYNET This site, originating in Australia, includes scholarly articles, technical hints, a gallery of featured artists, a discussion group, "virtual ceramics", and -of course- lots of links.

BabsDeluxe's Ceramic Information Babs has been assiduously combing the net for ceramic-related sites, and she has built up quite a collection- knock yourself out.

Tips from the Jeweler's bench Ganoksin online has got some very well-presented and detailed information on the techniques used by fine jewelers, written by Charles Lewton Brain. They also offer an e-mail forum focussed on jewelry, and several lines of their own jewelry as well.

Cupola furnace If you want to build your own cupola furnace for melting iron and bronze, this Washington-based foundry and machine works has invented one that is easy to construct. They offer a book that shows you how, with chapters on other subjects of interest to a small iron or brassfounder.

Reactive Metals Studio, Inc. Owner Bill Seely procures and distributes the "reactive metals" Titanium and Niobium to jewelers and other artists in sheet and wire form. Known for their physical properties as well as the spectacular and permanent anodized colors that can be achieved, these metals have become popular lately. He also sells patterned alloys, findings, hardware, and the fusion welder that puts it together.

World Wide Arts Resources They are trying to make a comprehensive list of artworld links, and are doing a pretty good job of it. Now featuring "chat rooms".

The Incredible Art Department From Indiana, a compendium of information especially interesting to arts educators, with lesson plans, art jobs (with some links to animation and advertising companies ), materials suppliers, and other useful resources.

SITO artchives and collabspace This site started in 1993 as OTIS, but a lawsuit reversed that. They still accept just about any kind of art capable of being shown on the web, and provide one of the most painless ways of getting your work shown in cyberspace. Although e-mailing compressed art files is encouraged, they will accept photographs by mail, scan them, and put them up on their site without filtering them esthetically- what you see is what they get. They also sponsor collaborative art and art-related discussion via e-mail.

PierWalk '97 in Chicago at Navy Pier A virtual walking tour of this impressive exhibition of over a hundred large-scale sculptures by well-known and obscure artists. Navigating the site is a bit difficult, but it's worth checking out.

Fine Arts - Home Page from The Mining Company The visual arts are just a part of this ambitious site's focus, but it considers them fairly deeply, with multiple sections devoted to ceramics, fine art, art and technology, drawing and sketching, animation, etc. Each subdivision is managed by a separate person , reachable by e-mail, who generates some original content as well as anthologizing relevant websites in framed links. Look in the archives for an interview with yours truly!
