Title 24 Energy Conservation

FAQ

To view and print a list of frequently asked questions about my Title 24 services, including a checklist of the information I need, click on the FAQ link to the left.

Title 24 Documents

Since 1978, the California Energy Commission has required all new buildings and additions to meet energy efficiency standards. These requirements specify certain mandatory features, such as minimum insulation levels, and require that each new building or addition use less energy annually than its "energy budget". This must be documented with calculations shown on a set of standard forms submitted with the building permit application.

Title 24 Experience

I have been preparing energy compliance documents since 1982, when I used my Apple II computer to do on line time sharing with Berkeley Solar Group. In 1988 I created a point system spreadsheet template to make the production of energy calculation documents more efficient and accurate. This was sold across California by Heizer Software.

The point system method was no longer approved after July 1, 1999. Since then I have been using Energy Pro software to show compliance.

Title 24 Services

As of now, I only do Residential Title 24 Documentation. Using Energy Pro, I can produce the required residential Title 24 compliance forms quickly and accurately. As an architect, I understand the importance of design issues and can help choose energy saving building features that achieve compliance without compromising the design intention.

Service Features

  • Computer simulation methods of compliance allow trade offs among energy saving features.
  • The fee for nearly any single family project is $250.
  • No charge for normal minor changes at any time, even after construction begins.
  • Can usually arrange same day or next day service if necessary.
  • For most clients, the documentation can be returned as Adobe Acrobat files which you can read and print with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Especially for Minicad / Vectorworks Users

If you use Vectorworks or Minicad on Mac or Windows, you can send your drawings to me as an attachment to e-mail. I send the documentation back as Adobe Acrobat files which can be opened and printed with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, or as Microsoft Word files.
