Monday, December 20th, 1999 - Whether the Weather is Cold, Whether the Weather is Hot...

A couple of weather links. This is what it's like where I am now. Sunny, 75 degrees, warm breeze, swaying trees, bare knees kind of weather. This is what it's like where I'm flying tomorrow. Partly cloudy, 42 degrees, cold tease, makes-ya-sneeze, help-me-please kind of weather.

Mom, Kellie, Brian, Uncle Jimmy, Grandma and Colin: I'm doing it all for you, baby.

So, I should be making a packing list. I just can't. I want to run around outside. I spent my entire lunch sitting in the grass at the Aquatic Park, reading and wishing I could take a nap there, under the tree. I walked around yesteday and today without a coat, in short sleeves. I want to frolic.

Saturday night David and I went out for Sushi. (Believe me, I wish I knew how I convinced him to go out for Sushi, as he's usually a penny-pincher of sorts. We went dutch, of course.) Ladies and Gentlemen, this was the first meal since 1990 where everything I ate had MEAT in it! Ok, fish. Every bite had FISH in it! See, I was a pretty strict lacto-ovo vegetarian until this summer. Then, finally, David introduced me to Sushi the way it was meant to be eaten. I'm now a sucker for really good raw, yes, RAW salmon. Cooked salmon, ok, but only little bits and only if it's done well. But...

Well, I started out with California rolls (which have avocado and crab surrounded by rice), Tuna Ngiri (tuna on rice), and Salmon Ngiri. As I ordered the Tuna, I thought, why'd I do that? I know I don't like the Tuna as much as the Salmon... Then, of course Ichi, the sushi chef (we were sitting at the bar, 'cause it's more fun that way) give me extra tuna. Very sweet of him. He also gave me a new cut off the salmon (whatever that means). All I know is that the Salmon was sweet and tender and I just wanted more and more of it!

Then, David ordered the Salmon Shishimi.

Shishimi is raw fish. No rice. Some cabbage stuff behind it, but nothing else goes on your chopsticks 'cept some soy sauce and wasabi if you like that. I tried to weasle a piece out of him, but he wouldn't have it. "Order your own!" I was afraid I wouldn't eat it all - that I'd get grossed out by all that raw fish. David assured me it was too good not to eat it all.

Boy, was he right.

Hmmm. It seems I'm too scattered to write this entry the way I would like. Ok, I'm signing off now. Happy Solstice everyone! Chat with you next week.
