Next By then I was two hours
later than I said I would be getting over to visit with Ian and Elle and
Leo. Almost as soon as I got there, I was handed the baby, and his
parents disappeared under the house. No, that wasn't an exaggeration -
Elle was crawling around down there, trying to install a phone line (Elle
is handier even than Ian - who is very handy himself. Maybe it comes from
being a theatre tech? All I know is, if Ian could've had the baby, Elle
would've been happy to let him take all the bed-rest so she could keep up
her industrious ways). It was ok, though, as Leo is either getting used
to me or has decided I'm ok - he didn't fuss much at all and seemed very
pleased with my goofy faces and babbling that I subjected him to (I have a
very, very silly streak that I seldom get to indulge so
well). Eventually, he fell asleep against my chest, so I lay back on the
couch and we napped together. It was very sweet. During this time, I
was listening to KPFA and I heard a call-in contest to go see Kenny
Burrell at Yoshi's next Friday - which I won! Very exciting to get free
Yoshi's tix; they run about $30 a piece! Anyhow, Elle eventually went
off to work (sound for a show; very cool that they let her hand-pump in
the booth; I wonder if anyone ever turned around in the audience and saw
her?). I brought over my sauce to feed Ian and I, since Elle had told me
before she left "all he ever eats when I'm not here is cereal; a fridge
full of vegetables going bad and he eats cereal!" I could see why he does
that once I was cooking, as you really can't cook and hold a baby - even
in a sling - at the same time. I was happy to be a good friend and make
sure he ate a decent dinner. Ian and I stayed up until Elle got home
around 1am, forgoing our original plans (first to go to a party, then to
rent a movie) in lieu of just sitting around, yakking. It was very nice,
actually; it made me realize that it's been a LONG time since Ian and I
really had time to talk like that. Babies, man. They change your
life. Anyhow, that's it for now. I'm watching the girls (Kaylei and
Kiera - ages 10 and 11) tomorrow with David, so it's a kidfull weeked. I
don't mind, really - at least you don't have to hold K&K all the time to
keep them from fussing . . .
Kids don't let you write.

Saturday, July 15th -
Kids!
Today was a productive day. I made sauce (David's recipe, which is
extremely good - honed to perfection, you might say) yesterday. While it
was simmering, I went to fetch a latte, and I came back to find it had
boild over, drenching the stove with a thin red coating. Feeling
industrious, I used that as incentive tto clean the entire kitchen. I
then pulled everything out of my little water-closet (closet with a toilet
in it that is off my bedroom - aka "my personal shitter" if you're less
fussy about polite terms) and scrubbed down everything - the walls, the
floor, the toilet. There was a good deal of mildew hiding in there; I'm
glad to have it clean now; it feels very good. Exercise log:
Got down on the floor with Ian and Elle and did some crunches/pushups/etc.
Writing log:
I'm currently reading:
