  • Overheard while walking out of Muir Woods, where many of the trees are somewhere between 1000-2000 years old, this past weekend (read in a lilting female British accent for full effect:)

"And you said you didn't have anything old in America!"

  • The Yahoo sign along the freeway in San Francisco as you approach the Bay Bridge was turned off. The white billboard portion of it said, in plain black letters, "Here, take my electricity."

  • Along Telegraph, where the stands sell original jewelry, I stopped to buy a pair of earrings. The man behind the stand noticed my necklace and declared it was his work. I fingered the turquoise piece and said, yes, my boyfriend at the time did say he bought it along Telegraph. "At the time?" he said, "He must've really messed up. You seem really nice." A short conversation later, and he tells me the next time he sees me, he'll buy me coffee or tea. And it wasn't creepy.

Exercise log:

Hiking off the paved trails in Muir Woods on Saturday; why don't I do this more often?

Writing log:

Wrote 2000 or so words of a new story. It may even be finished? It's hard to say; when I described it to my roomie, it sounded really stupid, but I hope it doesn't read that way. I'm going to have to find a few more first readers that I can trust to read my raw efforts.

I'm currently reading:

Our Friends from Frolix 8 by Phillip K. Dick

Reading off and on:

Unlocking the Air and other stories by Ursula K. LeGuin

Starlight 2 anthology edited by Patrick Nielsen Hayden

My new PO Box is:

Heather Shaw
P.O. Box 13222
Berkeley, CA 94712-4222
