At the risk of having things out of order . . .
The hills look like they're holding back a great fire today, huge dense
gray clouds rest on their tops, rolling down like smoke, setting off the
green . . .
Last night Ian came over and had dinner. Well, he *brought* over tomato
sauce, and doctored it up with onions, garlic and some basil and oregano
out of my little garden. Have I mentioned my garden? Oh! I haven't, and
it's something that gives me such joy . . .
Nothing fancy, in fact. I have:
- An early girl Tomato plant that has yellow blossoms on her and is
doing
well.
- A Roma Tomato plant that's doing ok.
- A purple Bell Pepper plant.
- A yellow Bell Pepper plant.
- A green Bell Pepper plant (hey, bell peppers are pretty and easy to
grow!)
- Cinnamon Basil
- Sweet Basil
- Greek Oregano
- Thyme
- Sage
- Peppermint
- Chamomile (this and the mint are favorite teas of mine)
- Snap Dragons (4)
All these plants are in pots in front of my house because I don't
have
a rototiller and the ground here feels like rock and has inexplicably high
amounts of semi-ground up cement in it. I try to water them daily and
always at least say hello, if not stop to chat with them on my way in and
out of the house. I tell them they're looking good (even if the poor
green
pepper isn't getting very big), and check to see if any of the praying
mantis eggs I bought have hatched, and to pluck off terracotta climbing
snails.
