Sorry about the silence there for a few
hours. Started to
write an entry, then decided I wasn't quite in the right frame
of mind to
be giving my views in public, so, you know. Nada.
Ahem. Well, we're none of us perfect. Ah, the job
search is
getting depressing. Today I found out I didn't get the job I
interviewed
for last week - the one where the guy basically told me in the
interview
that I was at the top of the list. It was very
disappointing. I actually
didn't cry until I had to tell Tim, who was very sweet and
understanding
and supportive. But still. Freelance writing on its own isn't
quite
working for me. I just got the nice big fat check for the SF
guide last week,
and that was exciting, as it's by far the most I've been paid
for my
writing; an amount that must go on the tax returns this
year. But
I'm still stalling on the Indy guide, despite offers of
up-to-date info
from my friends who still live there. My problem is that I
want to write
fiction, not articles. The most creative thing I've written
lately is the
poem I wrote for Speculon
which
should be up any day now and I can let you all read
it. Actually, I'm
quite proud of that piece. It reminds me that yes, I am a
creative
writer, not just someone who writes well. Ah, and then there's
the
novel, which exists only in my head, notes in several different
notebooks,
various outlines, a prologue that I'm probably going to scrap,
and a tape
cassette with me rambling about it while I drove up and down to
see Tim
this past summer. There is some cool shit in this novel; now I
just have
to sit down and make it accessible to people other than me.
That's the big trick, isn't it? Communicating well.
Will have Indy guide done by end of this week. That and at
least a short
story *or* a first chapter of the novel.

Heh, heh. Exercise log:
Oh, I'm sure I could wrack my brain for something that counts,
but instead
I'll just admit it's been awhile.
