Friday, April 12th 2002 - White King Salmon Days

Greetings! No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I'm just busy. My evenings during the week fly by so damn quickly, and since sleep has been an issue lately (as in, I'm not getting enough of it), I'm not staying up very late. I'm sure you don't really want to read my litany of excuses for not updating the journal, so I'll spare you.

Let's see. Last week's theme was "How much exercise can Heather do without permanently injuring herself?" Holly's belly-dancing class left me with sore spots in my hips that made me limp around until Thursday or so. Very sad; I used to be able to shake my hips all night and not have any problems walking the next day. Friday's workout seemed harder than usual, and then on Saturday I went on a hike with Todd that lasted hours, went up hill steeply and downhill even steeper, and left me limping even before I got home. But! it was good, so good, to hang out with Todd that I wasn't about to say it was too much and have us head back. I'm always a little amazed how easy it is to talk to him, how time between when I've seen him last and now evaporates as we chat away. Todd is super-dude these days; earlier that day he's been on a 25 mile bike ride in the hills. He's looking good, buff, and he's letting his hair grow out so he's got these cute black curls framing his face. And, for those of you who know him, he's just Todd. And that's a very good thing to be.

Bleah, not very articulate, am I?

Sunday, despite not being able to walk much, Tim and I headed up to Berkeley to see Panic Room (surprisingly good). We sat in Jupiter's and had beer and pizza in the courtyard, which was loverly. Tim and I had one of those weekends where we fell more in love with each other than we'd been before, which just seems impossible, giving how much we love one another already. Lots of snuggling and "wow, you're cool". Mmmm. Anyway.

Monday evening, had my birthday dinner with David (yes, rather late, I know). Mmmm, sushi. Halfway through the meal I felt better than I have in months and months - protein rush! Had some amazine white king salmon that melted in the mouth. Oh, oh, how I wish I could afford sushi more often! Regardless, I should definitely try to buy some frozen fish to cook at home; it's obvious from my energy levels Monday evening that I need more protein in my diet.

Had a lovely evening with David, as I thought it was the last time I'd see him before he left for his annual scuba-diving vacation with his family. As it happened, I saw him last night (to get comments on my story), which was also nice; he wasn't nearly as stressed as he usually is before a big trip.

I think this recap is over for now. Need to get dressed and go to work, doncha know. Will try to be better about updating here, guys. Have a lovely weekend!

Exercise Log:

So hard to recall it all. Belly dance class that my sister taught on Monday the 1st; regular gym routine (now with situps!) Friday the 5th. A 3 hour walk starting in Oakland, going up and around in the hills and back down in Berkeley (then along Telegraph back down to N. Oakland) with Todd (who has an innate talent for getting people to walk much farther than they ever intended to) which left me foot sore and hobbling around for at least 3 days; regular gym routine on Wednesday the 10th. Whoo!

Writing log:

Was doing ok with the hour-a-day dare last week - wrote a new story I'm rather proud of called "Restoration". Needs some cleaning and another first reader, though; my two first readers always want me to make almost exactly opposite changes; grrr.

Current Publications:

In the Shade of You nominated in the long poem category for the Rhysling and will be reprinted in the 2002 Rhysling Anthology!

"How to Suck" reprinted in From Porn to Poetry: Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind

Threshold by Caitlin R. Kiernan

Indigo by Graham Joyce
