Next Buying a computer is a hair-pulling exercise. I've come
to the conclusion that the list prices on new Macs are solid and I'll have
to actually pay full price. Sigh. I'm also waffling on which computer to
buy, whether to buy both a laptop AND a desktop (which, depending on which
I buy, could cost about the same as a new "low-end" Powerbook), should I
buy the printer now or later, how much in debt am I willing to go for
this? It's all tax-deductible, which works out to about 2/3 original
price - but I won't see the refund until next spring. Anyhow, getting a
higher-paying job is the way to go here, and that in itself is a stressful
thing to be doing. It's busy here at work as we near another trade
show. I actually like it being busy, as I don't glaze over so badly in
the long afternoons. But it means putting off stuff like Strange Horizons
bookstore stuff, which I can only do on the nice iMac at work. This is
another reason I think it's imperative that I splurge on, I mean buy, a
new computer ASAP - I need to be able to work over the weekends! Right
now I'm getting requests for graphics, which my computer at home won't
handle without a long, slow scramble and the firewall (or something) here
won't let through. Anyhow, it's all too frantic this week, so it'll all
just have to be solved on my brand-new computer this weekend. Which is my
justification for buying the new computer in the first place. What
else? Oh, yeah, so I have to distribute a new story to the class on
Thursday and guess what? Nothing. Well, I have a very poorly put
together piece which I'm in the process of ripping into two, more-cohesive
stories, but I've no faith I'll get it done in time. I may have to tape
Survivor tonight and not allow myself to watch it until I'm done with a
draft. Yeah - a little self-blackmail never hurt anyone.

Busy is as Busy Does
Oh! There's so much going on! I've rented a pickup truck to go to
Burning Man - I got a very good deal from Budget. Since Jeff is driving
with me, I decided to make sure we'd have plenty of space - there's all
the survival gear, water, tents, shade, food, etc. plus all his musical
instruments (he has at least two gigs at Burning Man, and it would be
foolish of him to travel without his instruments anyway). So far our
little camp is me, Jeff, Ian and Aaron. Maybe Dan and Judy. This'll be
the first year that almost every tent around the dome holds only one
person - the past couple of years, I was one of the sole single folk
there. Of course, Ian and Aaron have SO's who are simply not going this
year, so I suppose we're about even on that front after all. It's going
to be a different year at Burning Man, and I'm starting to really look
forward to it! Exercise log:
Let's see: I lifted weights on Monday - shoulder, sides and calves
day. Did some abs, too. I did 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical
"Precor" machine, which lets you jog without the impact. Skipped yoga
Tuesday.
Writing log:
