Tuesday, August 28th, 2001 - Write Now Sleep Good

Good writing news in my email yesterday! First of all, EGrads liked my SF Guide so much they're asking me to do an Indy guide! Whoo-hoo! Makes me feel like a real freelance writer. All my Indy friends, be warned; I'll be emailing and/or calling you soon so I can pick your brains about the current local scene. Aside from yearly visits, my knowledge is about 4 years out of date; luckily I have many friends and family still in the area.

Second bit of writing news is that an article of mine is going to be reprinted in an anthology that will be out by December 1st! I'd mention specifics, but I want to make sure this is public knowledge first (and I don't want to steal anyone's thunder in announcing their anthology). But I'm very excited that another piece of mine will see (paper) print! Of course, this is another "H.L. Shaw" credit; I've yet to publish any paper "Heather Shaw" credits, but I'm working on it.

It's nice to be the one getting good writing news in the mail. Living with Tim is a constant process of watching him get news every other day in email or snail mail. Of course, he deserves this, as he works a good deal harder at it than I do, and I get a vicarious joy out of his successes, but it's still nice to have a day when it was *my* news that we're celebrating. Yay!

I've been sleeping so much lately. Sleep is good, sleep is a good healer, and every morning I wake up feeling less miserable than I did the morning before. Today I didn't even have to dose up on Ibuprofren to start the day, so, yay. Still, there is something horribly disorienting about waking up mid-afternoon after sleeping 12 hours or so.

I'm trying to convince myself that I have time to BART up and do some exercise in the gym before Tim gets home. I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world if I wasn't home when he got home, but it's so nice to greet him; it's my favorite part of the day by far.

Tonight we do laundry. Oh, so exciting. We wait weeks and weeks to do laundry, then have loads and loads to do all at once. At least I'm no longer lugging stuff all by myself anymore.

Hm, not feeling very interesting. I think I should go do something productive so I don't feel as if I've wasted my whole day. Ta!

Exercise log:

Bah. Must get into gym soon!

Writing log:

Lots on the plate, little accomplished aside from the stuff below.

Current Publications:

San Francisco City Guide at EGrad.com. Please note that my original article was twice as long as this one, and I wasn't the one who did the editing. I've already sent in the correction on the date of the Mexican-American war in the first paragraph, which must've been a typo during the editing process as well.

Under the Daddy Tree an article on Nalo Hopkinson's Midnight Robber in Strange Horizons. Warning: If you haven't read the book, this article will spoil all the plot twists for you; so go buy her book and read it first!

I'm currently reading:

Expiration Date by Tim Powers

Rangergirl by Tim Pratt
Okay, so I'm just reading the very rough first draft of the chapters fresh off the 'puter, but damn, it's already good! My new PO Box is:

Heather Shaw
P.O. Box 13222
Berkeley, CA 94712-4222
