Monday, December 3rd, 2001 - Barking at the Moon

Last Friday Tim and I went up to Berkeley to see Clive Barker at Cody's Bookstore. Having not read any Barker, I was along for the ride more or less, though as usual with these things, my opinion was greatly increased by the end of the evening. He didn't read, but gave a short talk about stuff we might ask questions about then took a good lot of questions. He handled the audience very smoothly, even the annoying fans in the front row. I left towards the end and ended up in pole position for the signing downstairs. My goodness, is he a charming man! He was so friendly, shaking my hand and chatting with me, really listening when I answered him. I had a book and picture signed to a friend who I know is a fan, but after I moved on I wished I had asked for a picture for myself. They were smooth black and white prints, alternate poses from the american cover of Coldheart Canyon; I don't care how dorky it is to have your picture on the cover of your own book: he looks good. Sexy even. Tim has one, signed to him, so at least one is around.

No, not turning into a fan girl. Yet. Let's see how much I like his books first.

If you can't tell, I'm in a reasonably good mood this evening. Have been all day. Suddenly content with my life. I was happy to be at work this morning. Out and out happy. I love the people I work with. I even love taking calls from customers; I actually came into this job with a knowledge of the product, and I can talk about it enthusiastically. Give advice. So cool.

I'm almost done with my gift-shopping. I did all of my shopping online and before Thanksgiving this year (not counting the stuff I'm getting from work). I love gifting people. (I love getting gifts, too, but that's not what this paragraph is about.) I probably talk about this every year around this time, so I'll keep it brief. There is something satisfying about giving the perfect gift.

When possible, of course.

I would've liked to have had more time for handmade gifts, but this year we went for a group (well, me and Tim) project instead. Tim's calling it "our Secret Project" and we'll be telling you about it soonish. I think.

Back to Clive for a moment. That night was Nov 30th, and Tim's birthday is Dec 12th. I decided to give Tim his presents one at a time, every other day, until the 12th. I'm calling this "the twelve days of Tim's birthday". I couldn't resist giving the first gift after Clive Barker because I had Lucidique from Tortured Souls to give him. I thought her especially appropriate because of the Playboy Nightcalls and Nightcalls 411 tapes we had to watch later that night.

Oh, yeah. So, Blowfish products are going to be on the Playboy Channel (on the above mentioned shows) on the 5th and the 12th. I've had so much fun putting this thing together at work (this is the part of my job that's not customer service; advertising). It's weird to be excited about a dayjob, but I am. I can't wait to see the tapes of the shows!

I think I've rambled on here enough for tonight. See? Two in a row. I said I'd try to be better. So far, so good.

Exercise log:

Tim and I were very good the past week. We worked out last Monday & Wednesday, and again toninght. We also walked to Mama's on Sunday, which is balanced by eating Mama's food. (We ended up having to walk home in the rain.)

I'm feeling good.

Writing log:

Need to find a place to send "Janitor's Night Dive".

My Bibliography page.

I'm currently reading:

Starlight 3 edited by Patrick Nielsen Hayden
