Friday, February 21st, 2003 - Soft, mushy foods

Hey there. Thought I should check in, as I haven't really written here in a while. I started an entry on the 17th but it was utter drek, so I haven't done anything else with it.

Had a lovely, unusual form of oral surgery this morning, which has left me pretty much in pain, bleeding from the mouth with cuts on my lips, a swollen cheek, looking for all the world like someone hauled off and hit me. I've been pressing my boss' frozen Spinach and Mushroom Quiche to my cheek all day long because the ice pak the dentist gave me was defective. The root canal I had done in November was still hurting, so they had to (GROSS-OUT WARNING) cut open my gums, peel them back and drill out the root tips. And it was just about as fun as it sounds, too. The procedure is done while clenching your teeth, and the endondist kept slipping and poking my lips with his scalpel/ poky thing (thus the cuts in my lips). Ow.

The only plus thing about this whole thing is the prescription for Vicodin, which I will fill later tonight, when I'm ready to be home for awhile. Whee!

My advice? Floss. And buy the mouthguard as soon as your dentist tells you to.

Tim and I have bought plane tickets to go to the Nebula awards weekend in Philly in April. Whoo! Now I just have to find a decent gown to wear that I can afford . . . I'm really looking forward to networking/ meeting editors/ etc. in the context of being at the Nebula awards; until I get my own nomination, this is the coolest. I'm so damn proud of Tim, too.

Ok, I'm feeling all woozy, so I think it's time to give this a title and link it up. Hope you all are doing well, and talk to you soon!

Say . . . is this a movement?

Exercise Log:

Yoga class, which felt soooo good. I miss exercising regularly.

Writing log:

Sent stories out to McSweeney's, Conjunctions, The Sun and Ideomancer. Have an idea on how to turn some of my latest short-shorts into an interconnected series of childhood fantasies (a la "Wetting the Bed"). Keep changing my mind on what to do with the Tide Story; maybe hypertext? Tim, who forgets that this is just the way I write, just wants me to *write* it. I've only managed to add 381 words to it last weekend.

Current Publications:

"Famishing" in Strange Horizons. My first pro sale!

"Wetting the Bed" and a collab with Tim Pratt, "A Serious Case of Fairies" in Floodwater

"How to Suck" reprinted in From Porn to Poetry: Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind

Currently Reading:

The Fantasy Writer's Assistant by Jeffery Ford

Read recently:

A bunch of Hellblazer comic collections; I've read these before, about 10 years ago when I was dating Todd, but back then I had access to all the individual issues; the collections skip loads of good issues, including some of my very favorites! Grr.

Donate money to my teeth, my grad school application fees, our writerly projects (Floodwater and Flytrap!). Every little bit helps!
