Saturday, January 20th, 2001 - Better and Worse

Well, in karmic retribution for being such an unbearable bitch all this past week, I have been given a nasty, stuffed-up nose-and-head-type cold. Personally, I think the fact that I was stressed, PMS-ing and unable to sleep well all last week weakened my immune system and brought the cold (which has been wanting access to my body since November, I think) in on a VIP pass. But, hey, I can't help thinking that I somehow deserve this.

Anyway, I'm feeling nicer as a person, and I no longer have quite the same death-wish I had a few days ago, but I'm wishing there was some vacuum-like gadget that I could use in my sinuses right about now. I drugged myself up on NyQuil last night (twice - when I woke at 4:30 am, I took another dose) so I would sleep through, and I managed to log a solid 13 hours of sleep. I'm a big believer in sleep as a healer. Unfortunately, I was too far gone to prevent massive cold attack. Oh well.

One of the things that cheered me up yesterday was meeting Susan for lunch. How pleasant to meet a pretty, smart woman for dining and conversation. I was pleased with the way the waitress called us "ladies" - it made me feel like I had lunch with my good girl friends all the time.

I was kinda nervous, but that's ok - it all seemed to go well. I think we're meeting next week for lunch again, and I look forward to talking with her more. The strangest thing is that she lives right around the corner from me, yet we've not managed to meet until now (and we've been emailing about this since October). Cities are strange like that; you can never be sure how far a block is going to be, time-wise.

Anyway, I should go make myself some breakfast. I want to apologize for my nastiness this past week. Thanks for putting up with me, dear readers.

Exercise log:

Walked up and down the hill from Telegraph to College 4 times yesterday on various errands. If you don't think that counts, you try it.

Writing log:

Data entry is killing my shoulders. But I am writing plots in my head, I swear, and I will get them all down soon . . . . soooon . . . . .

I'm currently reading:

Starlight 2 anthology edited by Patrick Nielsen Hayden

Craig's Novel - 1st (rough) draft by Craig Foster-Parker
The first section blew me away; I'd forgotten how well Craig can do abstract thoughts - he really makes them jump off the page at you, come alive, etc.

My new PO Box is:

Heather Shaw
P.O. Box 13222
Berkeley, CA 94712-4222
