This Time
Last Year
Yesterday David and I worked in the garden all day. Well, David did most of the hard labor, since I was suffering from severe cramping. Ugh. I did help put in quite a few plants, including our new calla lily in the shade garden. David dug up the dirt/sod pile in the corner, making it into something of a raised be for me (I bought a mixed flower pack and scattered the seeds). I planted Morning Glory and "Four O'Clocks" in seed packs. I put my new silver-edged thyme and rosemary in the perennial herbs.

The most exciting thing in the garden are the snowpeas right now. We've got small peas! They grow out of the white blossoms, and a few of them are almost ready to pick. I've been eating some already, of course, the freshness making up for the greeny taste.

The bird feeder, which is just the most popular spot in our garden, has attracted a mama squirrel. I caught her hanging upside down from the branch, forelegs balanced on the dangerously swaying bird feeder...tsk tsk. She's a big'un, and when I moved the feeder further up the branch, she came back and tried, even though she went tumbling heels-over-head into the mexican sage below. Tough little mama...if it didn't scare the birds, I'd be willing to let her eat, too.

Last night I went down to Carol and Jodi's for a Burning Man meeting. Jodi saw my crampy state, and shared one of her very potent painkillers that she uses in such situations. Whoo-boy. The evening is a soft fuzz in my memory...I know I bought the ingredients for and made garlic bread, but it seemed to just take hours and hours of preparation. Everyone more or less pitched-in (a sort of test for the BM "newbies" who will have to learn to pull their own weight in the desert) and dinner was rather yummy. We discussed issues and ideas for BM before we called it quits. We watched Return of the Jedi, though I slept through most of it.

This morning we just hung out and enjoyed being with family. Jodi made french toast and brought us fresh strawberries and cherries from the farmer's market (which I unashamedly munched, red juice staining my fingertips and chin). It took us far too long to get home, but that's another story, which is boring after all.

I'm kinda out of it, but I thought I'd give an update. I'll chat with y'all later.
