This Time
Last Year
Today was cool and breezy. I mistakenly thought it felt warmer this morning when I got dressed this morning, leaving me in sandals, a thin skirt, a t-shirt and a very light jacket. The sandals were the worst, however. I almost stopped to buy a new pair of socks, my toes were so cold.

I did a lot of walking today, too. I took a 20 minute (one way) walk to go buy milk this morning for work. I got halfway back with 2 gallon jugs wedged in my backpack before I sat on a bench and waited to use my morning bus transfer one last time. The bus came at 11:30, and my transfer said 11:15, but bus drivers around here aren't so picky as that. At lunch I walked up to the Ecology center where I bought fungicide for the tomatos, and splurged not only on a rosemary start and a very healthy silver-edged thyme plant, but also Pam Peirce's Golden Gate Gardening, which was 15 % off and I've been wanting it for awhile. This book has a very friendly tone and discusses exactly what it's like to try to grow each plant in this area. It's much easier to decipher than Rodale's Garden Problem Solver, which is so comprehensive it becomes daunting to wade through. Golden Gate Gardening gives suggestions not just from Peirce, but from other local gardeners as well. A boon for people gardening in the Bay Area.
