I got a job at A
Certain Catalog. I'd applied back in August for a job as a
shipper
there, but I never heard back and had (correctly) assumed I
hadn't gotten
it. But they called me last week, a day after I'd accepted the
Sierra
Club job, and wanted to know if I'd interview for a job as their
"General
Office Assistant". I did a phone interview followed by an
in-person
interview in a cafe next to their office in the Mission. The
in-person
interview was a little exhausting, as I had to meet with every
last
employee (all 6 of them), not to mention a disturbed homeless
woman who
interupted for 5 minutes, screaming "I"m the coroner and your
mama jus'
got hit by a truck!" and other, more graphic
things. Sigh. Anyway, I got
along great with everyone in the office (and they're all Buffy
fans,
huzzah!), from Greta, their product tester (David, who has read
their
catalog with me and "knew" Greta from that said, "Of course you
got along
great with Greta; you like the same toys.") to the
"conservative"
bookkeeper (who was too thriled I'd done some bookkeeping
before; he's
thinking vacations) to my boss. I was offered the job
yesterday, and I
accepted. My excitement at getting a full-time job that pays
well and has
great benefits (including a commuter check!) was somewhat
tempered by the
fact that I had to call the Sierra Club and tell them I couldn't
work for
them. At least they hadn't spent any time training me, but I
felt just
awful after calling them. They were all so nice and cool and my
age, and
I hope hope hope I'm not burning a bridge by doing this. But,
when faced
with a full-time job with "beneys" or a part-time, temp job with
none, I
had to go for the one that will help me pay off my debt.
Speaking of work, I have to go to it now. Yes, I'm insane; I
told them
I'd start the very next day! Wish me luck!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blowfish
Well, if you've already read Tim's
journal,
you know my news:
Exercise log:
Lots of walking to and from BART. I am redeveloping callouses
on my feet.
Writing log:
Made another go at "Goat Girl". Realized that once again I'm
info-dumping
with no real scenes. Got bored during "Total Asthma
Management" convention work and wrote the first scene, complete
with
action, setting and character. Yay!
Current Publications:

The Ivory and the Horn by Charles deLint
Okay, so I'm
just reading the very rough
first draft of the chapters fresh off the 'puter, but damn, it's
already
good!
