Sunday, October 13th, 2002 - Burgers of DoomThe Blue Angels have been buzzing San Francisco these past few days. The result of this are periodic moments when it's impossible to hear the person on the phone at work. My boss commented on this, which earned her a quick "Saying that is UN-AMERICAN!" from the new Heather. Thank goodness she was joking.I know a little of what's been going on politically, and it bothers me greatly. It also makes me angry every time I hear those jets zooming overhead. Every time I hear them zoom, I think of war. Then I think of these stupid men in Washington who want war. And I want to hide somewhere else until someone with at least half a brain is in charge. But that would be a long, long wait. I'm also having dreams about war, which pisses me off. Anyway, it's almost Fleet Week around here, and that got comments at work along the lines of "it's the slut's holiday!". I asked why that was, and it was pointed out to me that all the sailors in town are lonely and they've *heard things* about San Francisco, and they're looking to party. And, for the first time since I've moved out here, I realized that Fleet Week meant lots of boats and sailors. You can tell I grew up in a land-locked state, as this never occurred to me before, that there would be more boats than usual, and therefore, sailors. Neat. Yes, I'm hardly consistent.
So, this weekend has been absolutely lovely. Tim and I have had such a lovely time together . . . la! Let's see . . . Well, Friday I was in kind of a bad mood, as I'd gotten some more bad medical news (I have so many doctor and dentist appointments in the next few months, it'd depress anyone!). We stayed at home, ate pizza, watched a bad Kirsten Dunst movie (well, an hour of it). Calm. The biggest news from Friday is that Tim and I finally sent out our Flytrap guidelines to our invite list. You might want to check out his entry for more details, but the gist is that Tim and I are doing our own little 'zine, which we hope to premiere at World Fantasy 2003. The first round of submissions are invite-only, mainly because we're new at this and want to get used to it before we open it up (plus, I'm doing fiction, and I can be distressingly slow about things sometimes, at least compared to Tim). Anyway, it's very cool and exciting and I can't wait to see what we get by way of subs. Whoo! Saturday, um, laundry, then we got dressed up (ok, I got dressed up) and we went into the City to see my friend Richard (whom I work with) and his husband, Ricky (yeah, yeah) at Hole in the Wall (which is a cool gay bar near Folsom). We went to Gail's cafe/ laundromat Brainwash for dinner, where the boys had burgers of doom! while I had some nice veggie sandwich. It was way fun, hanging out with three hot men in San Francisco. Richard is a big sweetheart, certainly one of my very favorite people at work (not to mention an excellent artist; I'm commisioning him for all sorts of chapbook work in the near future). After SF, Tim and I came home and frollicked, then decided to watch The Green Mile at midnight. The movie is excellent, but over three hours, so we got to bed around 4am. Today, woke up at 2pm (whoo!), went up to Berkeley where Tim put a down payment on an engagement ring. I skipped along after that, so excited and bouncy and wow, this means I'm like, pre-engaged and Tim's not even nervous and wow, wow, wow. Ahem. Not sure when I'm getting the ring. Tim has "plans", which I keep hoping doesn't involved greased pigs or anywhere that I might drop the ring and lose it (I have weird paranoias). But, I know it's in the next, oh, two and a half months or so, so . . . soon! After ringing, we went to eat, then to a cafe where I worked on answering email (I'm trying to be better about such things). Then to REI, where I bought a gel seat-cover to save my poor tailbone from the pain of spinning class. Then grocery shopping, then home. Whoot! And now, I must watch Angel. Have a lovely week. |
