This is the engine of a Togolise taxi. The plastic yellow container is the fuel tank. There are some taxis not quite this worked over but this is not an uncommon arrangement. It is very difficult to find parts in Togo so the drivers and mechanics are extremely resourceful to keep their cabs on the road. I wish we could be so in the US.

Between the cost of fuel for his trip home and the money he had to pay the owner of the cab, this driver may have made $7.00 commission in the four days of service with us. Fidel's mother fed him and he slept in the cab for the four days. Fuel in Togo costs just as much as it does here in the states.
