Tuesday, August 29th - Timing
Argh! So, I've been bitching about MacZone and their customer service here for awhile, right? It's been weeks of trying to get a straight answer out of them about WHEN my new iBook and printer are arriving.

Well, I got home yesterday and lo and behold there was a shipment waiting for me! My new printer!

But where's the iBook - y'know, the thing that I need to even USE the printer?

I called customer service and I find out that it's coming - tomorrow (which is today as I write this). Seems that while the printer was shipped two-day air (which is what I was told everything was shipped, despite my repeated requests for overnight delivery) the iBook was shipped three-day air.

At this point, I assume that this is on purpose, that they're fucking with me on purpose. I mean, c'mon - what am I supposed to do with my USB printer with my old mac? I can't do jack shit; I can open the box and look at it. That's all. Fuckers. Big fucking teases.

In happier news, I got the Strange Horizons Bookstore done. Yay! I worked on it 8 hours yesterday and another 3 or so today. The maintenance should be a lot less work than the construction of the thing; good thing I know html, although I'm starting to think it's time to learn an html editor. Just in case I wanna do something fancier someday.

Oh, and if you came here following Charlie's link, I just want you to know a few things:

  • This is my third year going to Burning Man. I know what I'm doing.
  • Every year I take 5 gallons of water a day. Every year the rest of the people I camp with do not bring enough (although I'm ridiculed for bringing "too much"). Every year we have to scrape together $20 for the in/out fee so someone can go fetch more water. Don't tell me I'm bringing too much water, dammit.
  • Our camp is extremely "LEAVE NO TRACE" and we would NEVER leave empty or full water bottles (or ANYTHING ELSE for that matter) behind. In fact, the morning we leave, after we get everything packed up, everyone in the camp puts on latex gloves, grabs a trash bag and heads out to the playa for an hour, so we can do our part to pick up after the slobs who do leave their shit behind.
  • While I resent being accused of a) bringing too much water and especially b) being told I'm going to contribute to the mess, you should also know that I've already corrected Charlie, and he apologized. This public rant is just to set the record straight.

So, do you like the new colors? I started playing around today, and decided I needed a change of scene. If it's too hard to read, let me know; I made the font bigger for the entry to try and compensate, but if it hurts your eyes, I'll put in more contrast.

Exercise log:

Lifted weights: chest, triceps and abs. Half an hour on the elliptical machine - about halfway through, I hit the "zone" (read: endorphins kicked in) and I could've kept running forever.
7:03pm Update: I got the iBook! In fact, I'm connected and writing on it right now - yippee! Finally, I can bond with my new baby!

Unfortunately, I leave the morning after tomorrow for Burning Man. And tonight is the big Xinet party. I should go. I will go. It's already started, but I can still go. I can put this beautiful silvery clamshell away, leave her alone on her first night in her new home. She'll be ok without me, right?

Aw, look at her, all smooth and warm. She purrs when she's working on something, how sweet is that?

Argh! Alluring creature! You had to be a laptop - I have no excuse to leave you!

But I wanna dance, is that so wrong? I can't leave my laptop in a bar while I dance, not even at a company party. I don't want to, I'd be too nearvous. And I'm not dancing wtih her (in public). It's a funk band anyway, and I really don't want to get funky with my new computer.

Anyway, I should quit dawdling now. Ciao!

Writing log:

Oh, I wish I had time to write!
