Cafe Rambleflower

Tuesday, August 26th, 2003 - Gushing Lizards

Ok. You know those entries where I gush and glow about what a good time I just had at the con this past weekend? Yup, this is totally different. This is about a workshop.

The Strange Horizons/ Polyphony Workshop was amazing. Simply wonderful. Everyone was nice and got along well. The critiques were great -- I think I learned more from listening to other people's critiques of other stories than I did from the critique of my own story ("Single White Farmhouse").

Actually, in true Cafe Rambleflower fashion, the true con report will have to be delayed another day. I just spent a couple of hours formatting pictures to post, and it's way past my bedtime and I'm still running a deficit. However! I will leave you with the pictures, with strange and bewildering captions!

We look friendly, but the chick in the middle will kick your ass.

(top row: Jed "Jeditor" Hartman, Greg "The Edge" Van Eekhout, Sarah "Grammar Goddess" Prineas
middle row: Darlene "Folk Lore Wiz" Malcolm-Clarke, Jenn "Smartass" Reese, Heather "Sex Advice" Shaw
bottom row: Rob "Irish Eyes" Vagle, Aurora "Pixie Smart" Lemieux, Mary Anne "The King" Mohanraj, Jay "The Writing Blur" Lake, and Blake "Fit Man" Hutchins

(Yeah, that wasn't easy. If you come up with any better ones for anyone, please email me at gryffyn[at]there[dot]net.)

It's hard to tell in this picture, but Jay, Sarah and Jenn are actually performing a rare, three-way mind-meld.

That's Katrina, who was on the beach controlling the tides (because she is mighty) during the group photo, with Jenn. Notice how they're oblivious to poor Greg, who is in obvious distress just behind them. He wanted to be edgy so badly.

In fact, he tried to prove his edginess to us many ways. Here is possibly the source of the distress in the previous photo, when Greg tried to take down Jay and was noogied until he said "uncle".

This was right before we turned into lizards and went for a swim. I think. We were pretty tired, but very happy. Even Greg.

Hey, I said strange and bewildering, not good!

Even that took longer than I thought it would, man! Ok, I'm off to bed. Sweet dreams, my lizardly ones!

Tell me about male puberty. Or suggest better captions. Or, you know, say hi.

Exercise Log:

A nice walk around our neighborhood; I walked on the beach every day of the workshop and I'm trying to keep it up. Oh, and a lovely shag with Tim.
