Tuesday, January 18th, 2000 - Two Apologies and some Chatter
First, I'd like to apologize to any men I offended yesterday with my penis bashing. I was simply trying to recount an amusing (I thought) conversation, and I suppose I thought men would find the glimpse into girltalk a little interesting. For the record, I'm a big fan of certain dick, and I have nothing against the ones I saw hanging around that tub. My beef was more with little snakey guy and his attempts to make it with every non-dick owner at the party.

While I'm apologizing, I guess I should say that I love Lanminds (my ISP and keeper of this page) and I'm good friends with at least one employee there (they do keep hiring people I know). When I complain about my connection hanging, it's because often I get routed funny from work (I think; here's where a non-technical person tries to lay it all out for you) and end up going through the smaller, more crowded "pipeline" instead of one of their big, fast pipelines. And, since I'm using my shell account, and not Eudora or Fetch for email and uploading, it's much much much more obvious when the connection hangs because suddenly I can't see what I'm typing. I have to count spaces when I backspace, and keep track of any typos and proofread lots. I also save often, which is why sometimes you get an entry that seems half done. In those cases I'm probably still writing and am afraid of losing what I've written so far.

Whew!

Not too much to report (which is why you're getting apologies - both sparked by one email each. See? I do listen.). I was excited at yoga tonight by the fact that I'm feeling a lot stronger in many of the poses and less like I'm going to topple over at any minute. I felt all centered and relaxed afterwards. I had a good chat with David, then I watched the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I liked (though not as much as _Hush_, the last new episode. For one thing, I wanted Riley to stop trying to get Buffy and for them to get on with the plot. But I loved the bit with Spike and his newfound desire to kill evil).

Did I tell you all I'm signing up for a Unix class (paid for by my job)? I'm rather excited about it, as I use my shell account a lot, and it'd be grand to know how to do even more here. John Muster, who helped invent Unix (from what I hear) teaches this class. And the more you know...

I'm also planning a trip to somewhere in Europe sometime this spring. Where depends on Holly, and if she ever leaves Cairo. When depends on which section of the Unix class I get into. I did figure out to take a 2 1/2 week vacation and only use 9 vacation days (using Good Friday, Easter and May Day), but airline tix are $200 more expensive at that time than they are in March. Sigh. I also found great airfare to Italy - nonstop for $400! - but it's a smoking flight the entire way. Hmmm, maybe they'd let me wear that oxygen mask the entire time....

That's all for now, folks
