Cafe Rambleflower

Tuesday, January 1st, 2002 - Grand Opening

Welcome to the new home of my journal. I've been wanting to do a site redesign for awhile now, and I decided that the New Year was as good a time to do it as any. My hope is that I'll be inspired to write more, what with the pretty new cafe open and all. Yes, if you're wondering, one of my New Year's Resolutions is to update my journal more regularly. What "regularly" means is open to interpretation; I may update every day, every week, or start a notify list so you don't have to keep reloading the main page.

Speaking of the main page, I hope you like it. The idea behind it is to keep both a current record of each month's entries (thus making their index pages MUCH easier to keep updated) and to let me write the entries in their proper places. With the old design, everytime I wanted to write a new entry I had to make sure I archived the old one; now they'll already be there, and I've only to update the links.

I was going to write a long entry, reflecting on the holidays, telling you what I've been up to. But, alas, the design of this page has taken me all day long. Literally. At least I'm pleased with the results, but it's left me somewhat empty as far as creative output goes. (It has also made my boyfriend miss me; soon I shall join him in watching some Soprano's second season on DVD (an Xmas gift from my mother.))

Ah, so, a brief list of resolutions for the coming year, and then I must have some downtime before bed.

  • Exercise more regularly/ get back into the shape I was in before falling madly in love (I always find love fattening).
  • Write on a regular basis, even if this means writing an hour a day on BART (I've written my two favorite stories while commuting on the BART train).
  • Update my spiffy new journal more regularly.
  • Figure out what "regularly" means to me.
  • Spend more time with friends.
  • Keep the house cleaner.
  • Eat healthier.
  • Go dancing more often than I do (which is almost never; sigh).
  • Bring my lunch to work at least 3 times a week.
  • Save some money.
  • Dress up occasionally for fun.
  • Start on either my novel or a series of "Goat Girl" stories.
  • and, last but far from least, appreciate the fine love of my life sharing my home.

PS Thanks to all of you that sent cards this season. A special thanks to Tim in Hawaii for the lovely angel ornament; she looks very good hovering at the very top of our tree.

Exercise log:

Walked over the hill and back again. Some dancing on New Year's Eve at Greta's birthday party.

Writing log:

Lots of rejections: F&SF, Realms of Fantasy, Hayden's Ferry Review. Also a note from Zoetrope telling me to resubmit after they move their office. Sigh.

I'm currently reading:

Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede by Brad Denton

The Strange Adventures of Rangergirl by Tim Pratt
