Thursday, March 2nd, 2000 - Rainbows over Berkeley
I was trying to stay after work today to get some Unix homework done, when Dave from engineering came out to look at the sunset. I love this about Dave, he never misses the opportunity to watch the sunset from our awesome view of San Francisco, the Golden Gate and Marin. The sun was bright, painting the clouds a dusty yellow in a pale blue sky; over Marin the sky looked like it had been freshly rendered in watercolors - it just didn't look real. We noticed that it was raining, and in the midst of admiring the sparkling raindrops, we realized we were probably missing a rainbow on the East side!

We ran across the building to the Eastern windows, where we watched a fledgling rainbow begin its growth from the North side of Berkeley. As the dark clouds passed behind it, it grew seemingly more and more solid, until we could see clearly the red, orange, yellow, green and even the blue bands arching proudly over Berkeley, framing the spring-green hills behind it. There was even a more ethereal, faint second rainbow stretching outside of this one. Our rainbow friend stayed for a good 25 minutes, and we stood and admired the little added bonuses, such as extra red stripes along the highest point of the arch. We couldn't leave until it had slowly, from North to South, faded from our view.

Sigh. I don't think I'm going to get much Unix done this evening.
