Saturday, May 20th - A Woman's Work . . .

Exercise log:

Too sore from Thursday's Leg-o-Rama
I'm fighting the urge to redesign my website. If it was a rainy day, I'd do it, but it's gorgeous outside: probably 80 degrees already and sunny without a trace of fog. I have grand plans for the day - laundry (while laundry is in, catch a quick brekkie at Mama's Royal Cafe), put my new summer duvet cover (freshly washed) on my bed so I don't wake up drenched in this weather, mow the lawn (we have this ridiculous electric lawn mower that has an annoying cord . . . it will serve as my exercise for today, however), put up my new tent (bought months ago for Spain but never opened) and seal the seams so it's ready for use this summer, shower, shave and go to Melissa's birthday barbeque at 4pm. What am I doing putting up a journal entry? I haven't time for this!

Last night I went to a dance performance that Jeff was house managing (that means it was free) called Subali-Sugriwa: Bali and India Unite in a New Work of Music and Dance. They performed the Ramayana, which is "an epic tale of good and evil". I'll spare you too many details. I was too tired to enjoy the performance entirely. There was a man heading one of the dance companies who danced for most of the middle section of the evening, only letting his "5 women representing 6 generations (?) - my pride and joy" dance for the tiniest little bit. The women shone like the briefest of comets, and I couldn't help coming away feeling as if I had a better sense of a woman's place in those societies than I did a sense of what that epic tale was all about. Oh, well. The costumes were elaborate and pretty.

I'm currently reading:

Confidence of the Heart by David Schweidel, who is teaching my Intermediate Fiction Writing course this summer.
