Yay! I am a poet! Keeping in the poetry theme, I
interviewed today for a job as a Poetry Assistant. Tim and Timprov were
joshing with me last night about just what, exactly, a poetry assistant
would do, and I have to admit
at the time I wondered that myself. But, since the poet in question is a
spry 76-year-old man with literally thousands of poems he's written over
the past 6 years, I can see where he'd need some help. He has 5 chapbooks
out and is working on his 6th one, and he needs someone to help with the
selection, formatting and layout of the book. He also needs a
publicist. He even has a separate binder full of erotica that he
wants to publish under a pen name, which is a world I know more
than a little bit about. So, there's plenty to do as a part-time job
there; now I just need to get the job.
I wrote last night! Yay, me! I've been in such a slump lately that I
almost gave up after the first paragraph, it was so clunky. Tim was
laughing at me, as I kept running out and asking him questions every two
minutes
(the writing was on the collab we started at the beginning of August, and
I had to make sure I still remembered where we were going in the piece,
what the objectives of my section were). I was bemoaning the number of
"to be" verbs, the preponderance of exposition as opposed to real scenes,
my heavy-handed use of humor. But, when it was done, Tim read it and told
me it was good. Funny. Got the job done. I am pleased that I didn't let
myself stop writing, but I'm still aware of the polish that will need to
be done on this piece, and of course, it's my turn to polish. Ah,
well. At least I wrote some fiction. That feels good. That's it for
now, I think. Have a lovely day.

A Poet
First of all, my poem, In the Shade of
You is up over at Speculon. Go, read it now. I'm very
proud of this piece, and I think that even those of you that don't care
for poetry might like this one, if I do say so
myself; it's humorous. The rest of the poetry is excellent as well. I
haven't read the fiction or reviews yet, but I trust it is all
quality. Exercise log:
Shagging despite the heat.
Writing log:
Wrote the next scene of "A Serious Case of Fairies", a collab I'm writing
with Tim.
Current Publications:
In the Shade of
You at Speculon.
I'm currently reading:
Earthquake Weather by Tim Powers
Okay, so I'm
just reading the very rough
first draft of the chapters fresh off the 'puter, but damn, it's already
good!
