Friday Jodi had called me and invited me down to spend the night with her,
Carol and Alex. I got the message on my answering machine but when I
called back I talked to Carol, and told her I would come. Carol
commented, "Oh, Jodi's going to be so happy to see you" in a sincere, but
mischievious voice. Sure enough, when I knocked on the door a few hours
later Jodi answered and was completely (pleasantly) surprised to see me
standing there. "They didn't tell you, did they? Those devils..." I
smiled and hugged her. Carol and Jodi are my tribe. We hung out all day Saturday and I invited them to come with me to Camp Fun for Miss Rebecca and Miss Lerlaine's Autumn Equinox Full Moon Party. I assured them it would be mellow; I was gratified later when they were grinning widely, snuggled on the poolside bed under mosquito netting under the full moon. "I feel safe here" Carol said. Indeed. Earlier, I introduced them to Mimi, Corn Man's mom, who immediately invited us to sit on a comfy blanket between the water fountain and the small fire pit. Carol and Jodi responded to her warm, welcoming nature. Later I overheard Mimi telling someone how much she liked "those friends of Heather's; they have such good energy". It was a warm and fuzzy night; I was affectionate with my friends in a serene-yet-festive space. We had a vocal jam followed by an instrumental session with 2 guitars, a cello, a trombone and an accordian (I kid you not). We ate grilled food as the moon climbed up the branches of a huge old oak over our heads. There was creamy, moist chocolate cake and, later, moonlight reflected of the surface of the pool. I felt loved. I woke up the next morning to what sounded like someone throwing pebbles into a tin can (It was; Corn cleaned out the fire pit). We had a lesuirely morning, and Corn made us pancakes and eggs. Later,in the heat of the day, we slathered on the sunscreen for a invigorating swim in the cool water of the pool. It was so mellow, to just lie there like it was any old summer day and you had nothing better to do than lounge in the shade near the pool. It was a family kind of weekend that way. | ||
