Forever Knight Episodes
Introduction

Forever Knight's three-season run covered four years: one in syndication (1992-1993), a hiatus (1993-1994), a second in syndication (1994-1995) and a third both in syndication and on the USA network (1995-1996).

A unique production number designates each episode, indicating its place in the production order.  However, the order in which Forever Knight's episodes actually aired reflects the production sequence only about one-third of the time.  For example, "Francesca" (production number 321) belongs before "Ashes to Ashes" (production number 320) because Vachon, alive in "Francesca," dies in "Ashes to Ashes."

The "dead-alive Vachon" example established the authority of aired order over production order in Forever Knight when it occurred in 1996.  For the preceding seasons, however, fans still debate the issues which problematize the matter of episode sequence in Forever Knight canon.  Take the instance of the second-season finale, which logically must influence Janette's departure before the third-season premiere: did she leave on the heels of the pleasantries of "Blood Money" (production order), or rather on those of the intensities of "Crazy Love" (aired order)?  Consider Natalie and Nick's tangled emotional encounters: in production order, "The Fix" precedes "Be My Valentine" by five episodes, while in aired order "Be My Valentine" airs immediately before "The Fix."  Finally, ponder the implications for all the characters that "Partners of the Month" may lead "Be My Valentine" by eight episodes (production order) or may follow by four episodes (aired order).

Third season suffers only the one reversal cited above ("Ashes to Ashes"), but second season's production numbers bear almost no relation to aired order, and first season actually aired slightly differently in different locations -- not only between Canada, the US and Germany, but between syndicating channels within each country.  Fans widely report "Cherry Blossoms" originally appearing third or fourth instead of eighth.  Recently, the SciFi Channel's airings have invented yet new sequences.

For all practical purposes, fans consider third season's order established and the SciFi Channel variations invalid Regional differences and the passage of time have unfortunately dimmed the chances of recovering an ultimate aired-order for first season; interpretation has largely settled into production order.  Second season, however, still arouses discussion and debate, since each sequence adds to or detracts from certain readings.

Key:   The table below lists the full title of each episode next to its unique production number.  The table arranges the episodes, however, in their most-widely accepted sequence: production order for first season, aired order for second and third.  The abbreviations are some of those commonly used on forkni-l.
