2008

September 2008

09-02.  For September, the recommendations project dashes across the calendar to spotlight "Spring Break, Slayer Style," a novella-sized BtVS/FK crossover by Valerie M. Kessler.  Thank you, Valerie!

August 2008
  • 08-09.  I changed the the fiction index and poetry index to include the frontispiece illustrations.  What do you think?  Also, my story "Starwort" has been nominated at the "Forsaken Fandom Awards" on LiveJournal.  I'm not familiar with the project, but I'm grateful for the kind recognition, and enthusiastically applaud their goal of encouraging more FK fanfiction!  Let's get some more FK stories nominated by their deadline this Friday, okay?
  • 08-04.  This month, I'm delighted to get to recommend PJ's historical fiction "Encounter with Destiny."  Thank you, PJ!

July 2008
  • 07-27.  My new Natalie story, "A Delicate Balance," is now available on my fiction index.  (What should I write next?)
  • 07-19.  I've updated the fiction index to list "A Delicate Balance," my entry in the Oldschoolfic Ficathon on Livejournal.  (The queue released on Monday.)  I'm hoping to hear back about my last set of edits; after that, I'll make any needed changes and put the story up here on my site, and of course send it to fkfic-l.
  • 07-04.  Happy Independence Day, USA!  How about a little Christmas in July?  This month, the recommendations project features Susan M. Garrett's "Traditions," set in December of second season.  Thank you, Susan!  In other news, I've been working on a Natalie story, and it's almost ready.

June 2008

06-01.  June's featured story in the recommendations project is Ell Hase's compact, pointed "Keeping it Together."  Thank you, Ell!

May 2008
  • 05-18.  "Clearing the Air," that drabble I mentioned, is now up on the fiction index.
  • 05-05.  This month, the recommendations project is proud to present Amanda Berendt's "Legacy."  Thank you, Amanda!
  • 05-03.  I posted a Tracy and Natalie drabble (100-word story) in a LiveJournal event.  I'll probably bring it home to the list in one manner or another, but I don't yet know how (it seems almost too tiny to ask the list's attention).

April 2008
  • 04-27.  Valerie traded a commentary on her N&N stories "Color of the Night" (pure story / commented-upon) and "To Drive the Cold Winter Away" (pure story / commented-upon) for a commentary on my Schanke story "A Little Salsa Picante" (pure story / commented-upon).
  • 04-23.  My new story "Starwort" is now up on the fiction index.  Like "Fireweed" a decade ago, it features Fleur and is titled with an obscure, symbolic flower name (yep, yet another endnote).
  • 04-06.  The queue at the Femme-Fic "We Love Female Characters" ficathon released on Friday night, and my new story "Starwort" is one of the entries.  (My first ficathon!  My longest story in years, too!)  I am awaiting feedback from one more beta reader; once I hear from her, I will make any needed changes and put the story up here on my site, and of course send it to fkfic-l.
  • 04-02.  Looking for a laugh?  The April Fools recommendation-of-the-month is Lisa McDavid's "To Each Hiss Own," a response to the "Put down the snake and we'll talk" challenge.  Thank you, Lisa!

March 2008
  • 03-23.  My tiny, new, Good Friday ficlet "Pro Terra Sancta" is now up on the fiction index.  It's from Nick's perspective, with Schanke and Natalie.  (No, this isn't the ficathon story previously mentioned.  But that one is out for beta.)
  • 03-02.  For March, I'm pleased to get to recommend Dorothy Elggren's novel "Evidence," with a striking subplot I think of as Reese's equivalent to Shanke's "Close Call."  Thank you, Dorothy!  In other news, I'm writing an FK story for a multi-fandom ficathon.  I can't say anything about the content publicly, lest my ficathon match have her surprise ruined, but you can expect to see it on fkfic-l in early April.

February 2008
  • 02-10.  February's recommendation-of-the-month is Abby Albrecht's inventive, amusing "Things Unsaid," which she generously gifted me in 2007.  Thank you, Abby!  My apologies for the late recommendation this month.
  • 02-07.  My new little vignette "Steamer Trunk Space" is now up on the fiction index.  It's from Janette's perspective, nestled between the flashbacks of "Father's Day."
  • 02-03.  I've added most of my 2007 forkni-l posts to my BrightKnightie blog on LiveJournal as backdated entries; use the "tag" filter to sort by topic.  If this turns out to be a good idea, I'll work my way back in time; let me know?  And I'm this close to posting a new story!  Maybe next week.

January 2008

01-01.  Happy new year!  To kick off the 2008 round of the recommendation-of-the-month project, we have April French's "Carpe Noctem," which may be indexed under flying, friendship, movie-night, first-season and N&N.  Thank you, April!

2007

December 2007
  • 12-31.  PJ now has her own FK site!  The appropriate links have been updated in the recommendations and on my LiveJournal.
  • 12-19.  I updated the Links page, on which the proverbial lichen had grown since the last revision, by inserting the list of a few selected fanfiction authors which I'd made for my new  LiveJournal.  I imagine I'll add to it, naturally.  (Trivia: Can you name both episodes in which a character says "like lichen to a stone"? <g>)
  • 12-01.  The final recommendation-of-the-month for 2007 is Elisabeth Hurst's "Charade, AKA Lacroix at the Raven," which strives to explain what the heck was up at the beginning of third season.  Thank you, Elisabeth!

November 2007
  • 11-25.  The links to April F.'s recommended fanfiction have been updated.  If you tried to reach her stories and couldn't, please try again!  (She's rearranging her site.)
  • 11-22.  Happy Thanksgiving!  This site now has its own LiveJournal.  Right now, I envision that LJ as an annex of this site, but I'm sure we'll see developments.  It does not yet offer anything this site doesn't, except a longer and perhaps more conveniently organized library of essential links, but of course it is a much easier venue for interaction (you can leave comments there, no need for email).
  • 11-01.   November's fanfiction recommendation is Perri Smith's "Three Spirits," an adaptation of Dickens's A Christmas Carol with Nick as Scrooge.  Thank you, Perri!

October 2007
  • 10-27.   My new short story "Last Minutes" is now up on the fiction index.  It's on the bleaker side of my work, but I'm happy to think that the premise is a bit of a twist.
  • 10-01.   For October, the recommendation-of-the-month project spotlights Valerie Kessler's "Further to Fall," which was written during first season, and may have been the very first fanfiction to make Natalie a vampire.  Thank you, Valerie!

September 2007
  • 09-20.   James K.W. has a new email address for fannish stuff; I've redirected all the "mailto" links on recommendations of James's work.  (Please remember to send feedback to fanfiction authors!  If encouraged, they may write more for us to read.)
  • 09-08.   The relative quiet greeting my latest fanfiction is a little daunting.  Is it the Doctor Who spoilers?  If so, I sympathize!  And oh! so hoist on my own petard.  :-)  Ah, well.  In any case, there're now a couple more third-season episodes on the "Stuff List" reference!  I really enjoy this "Places and Things of the FK Universe" game.
  • 09-03.   The "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references now cover five more third-season episodes.
  • 09-02.   My new parody "Professor When" is now up on the fiction index.  It's not a crossover, but of course it's spoofing Doctor Who along with Forever Knight.
  • 09-01.   For September, I'm pleased to get to recommend Susan Garrett's wise short-story, "A Fight to the Finish."  Thank you, Susan!

August 2007
  • 08-19.   By the author's request, all recommendations of Lizbetann's fanfiction now attribute her work to her nickname, not her full name.  (If you're a recommended author and ever want such a change, please just ask!  I'll do my best to be prompt.)
  • 08-05.   My latest story, "Better Late," is now up on the fiction index.  It's from Natalie's perspective, and set in a 2012 where life has gone on.  Next story on my plate: humor!  (No, really, I'm going to try to be funny.  Really.)
  • 08-04.   The August fanfiction recommendation is LastScorpion's "Render Unto Caesar," her second-season answer to Celli's tax challenge.  Thank you, LastScorpion!

July 2007
  • 07-31.   Did you know that I update the quotation concordance at the beginning of each month?  I don't mention it here, because usually all I do is file the latest "quotation of the month" from the home page, but it is a regular revision just the same.  (After I finish the "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references, perhaps I'll get back to the quotations project.)
  • 07-05.   Ell Hase's refreshing "Valentine Ghosts" is July's recommendation.  Thank you, Ell!

June 2007
  • 06-10.   I've added word-counts to my fiction index and poetry index.  I'd always measured by TXT file size, but I've noticed that's now quite passé.
  • 06-09.   For June, the recommendations project features Jill Kirby's Schanke-mourning vignette "Remember."  Thank you, Jill!
  • 06-07.   I'm afraid I've let the recommendations project run late this month.  Sorry!  On the up side, I've finished the flashbacks for a new fanfiction starring Natalie.

May 2007
05-01.   This month, the recommendation-of-the-month project spotlights Cousin Lucilla's "Memory Challenge" story, "Awakening."  Thank you, Luc!

April 2007
  • 04-15.   James K.W.'s archive has moved.  The links to all the recommendations of James's work have now been redirected.  (As you know, James was the "J" of "JADFE."  Misplacing James's work would be a great historical and cultural loss to FK fandom!)
  • 04-09.   The "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references now include the rest of second season, and the beginning of third.
  • 04-08.   The links list has received its first update in two years.  And for April, the recommendation-of-the-month project features Mary Combs's domestic romance, "Coming Home."  Thank you, Mary!  (I wish the spring holidays explained this late update, but no; it's just too many long hours at work, the same thing keeping me from writing new fanfic.)

March 2007
03-06.   March's recommendation-of-the-month comes a little late -- my apologies!  I'm happy to get to spotlight Lizbetann's songfic "Fragile."  Thank you, Lizbet!

February 2007
02-04.   PJ's episode-like fanfiction "The Art of Deception" is February's featured recommendation.  Thank you, PJ!

January 2007
  • 01-31.   The "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" (places and things) references now cover four more second-season episodes.
  • 01-01.   The recommendation-of-the-month project opens 2007 with Megan Hull's alternate-future "When She Loved Me," featuring Vachon and Tracy.  Thank you, Megan!

2006

December 2006
12-02.   For December, I'm pleased to present "By Any Other Name," Chelseagirl's first take on the wintery episode "The Human Factor," as 2006's last fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, Chelseagirl!

November 2006
  • 11-25.   For Abby's birthday, I gave her a short story featuring Schanke and Janette; if you're interested, "Nice to Remember" is now on my fiction index.
  • 11-01.   Susan Garrett's delightful and hilarious "Seduction of the Diligent," from TB's inspired "Eternal Champion" parallel reality, is November's fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, Susan!

October 2006
  • 10-26.   I posted a new short story ("A Little Salsa Picante") to fkfic-l last Monday, and now have it up on my fiction indexI believe it's the first time I've ever tried Schanke's perspective -- and in a "cop shop" plot, to boot!
  • 10-15.   The "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references now include about half of second season.  I've realized I will finally have to give in and switch from original aired order to the order on the DVDs, now that all the DVDs are available.  In the world of fanfiction, I have had a new short story out for beta-reading for a while, and hope to hear back soon.
  • 10-01.   As October's  recommendation-of-the-month, Cousin Mary's parody "You Sick, Sick Monkeys! A Letter from Tracy Vetter" should get us off to a smiling start with the third-season DVDs arriving this week.  Thank you, Mary!  (To anyone who did not go the pre-order route, you should be able to find and buy the season-three DVDs in your local shops beginning Tuesday, October 3, 2006.)

September 2006
  • 09-23.   I posted a new vignette ("Send My Love") to fkfic-l last Tuesday, and now have it up on my fiction index.  It's my first from Natalie's perspective in a while.  Additionally, a few more second-season episodes appear on the "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references, and I've corrected the grievous typos in the entries for Tracy's parents.
  • 09-14.   First season is now complete on the "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references.  On to second!
  • 09-06.   I've added to the "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references; we're nearly through first season.
  • 09-01.   For September, I recommend Kathy Whelton's thoughtful third-season novella, "A Question of Conscience."  Thank you, Kathy!

August 2006
  • 08-26.   I've added four more episodes to the "Character Directory" and "Stuff List" references.  I actually have new stories drafted; it's not that I've been playing this new list game to the exclusion of fanfiction, but the time and attention of beta-readers are scarce treasures, and I don't have the talent to post unedited.
  • 08-20.   I've added notes from five episodes to the "Character Directory" and "Stuff List"  (both with the references).
  • 08-13.   I've added notes from three episodes to the "Character Directory," and also begun a "Stuff List" of places and things (such as Kitten Club Magazine from "Love You to Death" and the Factory Theater from "Last Act") to go with it.  Both are linked from the references page, with the FAQs.
  • 08-06.   Thinking about how much I enjoy seeing many canonical characters together in a fanfiction, I put together the start of a new reference, a "Character Directory" listing all the canonical characters.  Remember the "Center Stage Challenge"?  (This much is from memory; I'll add others as I rewatch episodes.)
  • 08-01.   For August, the recommendation-of-the-month project features Nancy Kaminski's fun FK/XF crossover, "The Lure of the Alternanthera, or Clocknapped!"  Thank you, Nancy!

July 2006

  • 07-31.   Third-season is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com.  Go, place your order!  I've placed mine for my first season-three DVD set; I'll order my back-up copy sometime after the first arrives.  (The Sony site does not yet have season three on its main FK display, though its search function turns up a separate listing.)
  • 07-29.   I posted a new Janette vignette ("By Expectation Beguiled") to fkfic-l yesterday, and listed it on my fiction index today.  This is much faster turn-around than you usually see, because I've been antsy to get this one beta-read and finished for over a month now, so I can move on to the next, which I drafted July 4 (it's awaiting beta-reading).  And what do you think about the change to bulleting these update notes?
  • 07-24.   Tidings of joy unto all FK fans -- third season will be released at last!  Check out the preliminary news item on TV Shows on DVD.com, anticipating an October 3 arrival.  For the moment, that link is up on the Bright Knight homepage.
  • 07-04.   The website now appears in Trubuchet MS or Helvetica, instead of the longstanding Garamond; I hope everyone finds it easier to read.  Additionally, I upgraded several of the FAQ photos.  (The previous illustrations were two computers old; I can do better now!)
  • 07-01.   I drafted a new fanfiction last month; it's out for beta-reading.  Soon, perhaps?  This July's fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month is Megan Hull's contemplation of Nick's beast, "Toujours, Jamais."  Thank you, Megan!

June 2006

  • 06-11.   I reformatted the fiction and poetry index pages.  With larger screens now the norm, I hope you'll find this design simpler and more convenient.
  • 06-09.   I posted a new poem, "He Never Blames Her," listed on my poetry index.  It observes Nick, and wonders about Janette.
  • 06-02.   This June, I'm delighted to recommend Mary Combs's memorable reincarnation tale, "Fortune's Wheel."  Thank you, Mary!

May 2006

  • 05-21.   I posted a new vignette: "How He Loves."  The piece is probably as UF as I'll ever get, given my views on the characters.  See the listing on my fiction index.
  • 05-01.   Did you realize that this month is the tenth anniversary of the first airing of "Last Knight"?  My, but time passes!  As we memorialize, the fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month is James K.W.'s ambiguous and final "What He Deserves."  Thank you, James!

April 2006

  • 04-23.   I finished drafting a new fanfiction of my own today, but posting must wait until a friend is available to beta-read, and that won't be until at least May, unfortunately.
  • 04-03.   Slipping a little from my goal of prompt recommendations, I'm nevertheless pleased to recommend Mary Chamberlain's rain-soaked, fireplace-warmed "This River" for April.  Thank you, Mary!

March 2006
03-01.   Cousin Mary's brief but potent Tracy vignette "The Nod" is March's  fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, Mary!

February 2006

  • 02-23.   By chance, I happened to view my site at a higher browser magnification than usual, and discovered a plethora of otherwise undetectable formatting errors -- mostly rampant bold -- all over the recommendations project, going back to 2003.  I believe I've corrected them all.  To any who noticed this before, my apologies!  I'm suitably embarrassed, believe me.
  • 02-01.   For February, I recommend April French's post-Pompeii, song-challenge vignette, "My City of Ruins."  Thank you, April!

January 2006

  • 01-02.   I've added a new poem ("Mai's Little Boy") and a new story ("An Appointment Unkept"), both posted to fkfic-l last week.  See the listings on my fiction index and poetry index.  I hope this heralds a new year in which I actually write new fanfiction.  Wish me luck!
  • 01-01.   The fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month project begins the new year -- on-time! -- with Eve Dutton's tense, sensual, snowbound "Reckless Pantomime."  Thank you, Eve!

2005

December 2005
12-29.   Knight Vision, with its wide offering of FK graphics, has relocated, and I've updated my link.   12-05.   This morning, Dorothy Elggren kindly gave me permission to recommend her inspiring Christmas fanfiction "Snowfall."  Thank you, Dorothy!   12-01.   Today, I emailed an author and requested permission to recommend her story.  I'm running late yet again, clearly, but perhaps not quite so late as recently?

November 2005
11-26.  I've moved "the small print" off the front page, for what I think is a much tidier site entry.  What do you think?   11-25.  I've updated the all the links to Jill Kirby's fiction on her new website.   11-16.  For November, I'm delighted to recommend Tara O'Shea's Don and Jenny Schanke story "Windows."  Thank you, Tara!   11-12.  Today, I wrote an author and requested permission to recommend her story for this month.  Yes, I'm running late again.  But I'm looking forward to catching up in December and striving for a new year of timely recommendations.

October 2005
10-20.  Two days ago, April French gave me permission to feature her memorable Halloween story "Eternal Rest" as October's recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, April!   10-14.   This morning, I asked an author for a story to recommend.  If she generously agrees, I'll post my recommendation of her story as soon as possible.  Sorry about the delay (yet again).  I truly do plan to catch up . . . of course, I also plan to write more fanfic . . .  Honest.   10-03.   The problem, such as it was, is fixed.  (It was just my browser, not the website files.)   10-02.   Something is wrong with the frameset for the recommendations project pages.  I will fix it as soon as I figure it out, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

September 2005
09-13.   September's recommendation-of-the-month is the second of Nancy Kaminski's "Mortal Annoyances" series: "A Zucchini By Any Other Name Would Taste as Bland."  Thank you, Nancy!

August 2005
08-07.   For August, I recommend Cousin Mary's cheerful "Dream Vacation."  Thank you, Mary!

July 2005
07-19.   Disturbingly late -- but never, ever forgotten! -- the fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month is Lizbetann's skillful short story "Resolution."  Thank you, Lizbet!

June 2005
06-01.   June's fanfiction recommendation is the simple, sweet "From Solitude..." by Amanda Berendt.  Thank you, Amanda!

May 2005
05-04.   "Sense and Insensitivity," an energetic little spoof by Havoc The Cat, is May's fanfiction recommendation.  Thank you, Havoc!

April 2005
04-03.   For April, I recommend LastScorpion's post-LK Janette reflection, "After the End."  Thank you, LastScorpion!

March 2005
03-01.   Jarvinia's "A Special Offering," a Conversion Day story, is this month's fanfiction recommendation.  Thank you, Jarvinia!

February 2005
02-01.   This February, the fanfiction recommendation project features Susan M. Garrett's story about Janette and her jewelry, "And Memories, Like Diamonds, Shine."  Thank you, Susan!  Hey, all -- have you purchased your second-season Forever Knight on DVD yet?

January 2005
01-08.   The fanfiction recommendation project begins a new year with Jill Kirby's FK/HL crossover, "Honor the Heart."  Thank you, Jill!   01-05.   Forever Knight's second-season DVDs are now available!  My set is on its way, Amazon assures me, and copies should now be in off-line stores as well.  Have you used all your holiday gift certificates yet?  Wouldn't second-season FK make a marvelous gift to yourself?  I've redirected the links to Jill Kirby's stories, as recommended in 2004, 2001 and 2000.  Her website has a new address.  I'm afraid the fanfiction recommendation is late this month; I apologize.

2004

December 2004
12-07.
I've redirected the links to Bonnie Pardoe's stories, as recommended in 1999 and 2003.  Her website has a new address.   12-04.  Rounding out the calendar, this month's fanfiction recommendation features April French's provocative "The Subtle Forms of Control."  Thank you, April!  Readers, just a friendly holiday thought: please remember to email fanfiction authors to let them know you read their work; your simple acknowledgment may be the most inspiring gift they receive this year -- and your reward may be new stories by them next year!

November 2004
11-01.  This month, I recommend the song-challenge fanfiction "Why Should I Cry for You?" by Lizbetann.  Thank you, Lizbet!

October 2004
10-30.  I've redirected the links to Sandra Gray's stories, as recommended in 2000 and 2002.  She has a new website.  Also, Amazon now offers pre-ordering for second-season Forever Knight (release date January 4, 2005).  The Sony site still pictures and links to first season, but second is truly, finally on its way.  Reportedly, second season contains "extras."  Personally, I care nothing for extras, but a great deal for canon, and for having the whole series in a non-degrading format.  Order your set today!  And while you're there, why not order a spare?   10-10.  For October, my fanfiction recommendation is Elisabeth Hurst's creepy "Red Dreams."  Thank you, Elisabeth!  And my apologies to all for the delay in the website update this month; this is the latest it's ever been.  I'm afraid I let other things get in the way.

September 2004
09-01.  The Janette FAQ now notes something I've only just realized: i
n AFWTD's flashbacks, the movement between English (spoken with the Englishwoman Anna) and French (spoken with all the other characters) indicates that Janette already possessed fluency in both these languages during her mortality.  Intriguing!  For September, the fanfiction recommendation project highlights Dorothy Elggren's classic "Somehow..."  Thank you, Dorothy!

August 2004
08-21.  TVShowsOnDVD.com reports that Columbia TriStar will finally offer us Forever Knight season two, come January 2005!  I modified the "News" blurb on the main page to reflect this news.  Please, if you have not yet purchased season one, do so now -- and save your pennies for season two.  Sony will not sell us later seasons if it considers the early sales too poor.   08-02.  August's fanfiction recommendation is James K.W.'s "Most Trunk Space in 30 Years."  Thank you, James!

July 2004
07-06.   This month, the fanfiction recommendation project suggests Eve Dutton's AMPH between-the-scenes peek, "To Love That Well."  Thank you, Eve!

June 2004
06-02.   The concordance now includes more material from "Spin Doctor."  I've also begun new topic categories for archaeology, reporters and truth.  And here at the end of another television season, June's fanfiction recommendation is Nancy Kaminski's humorous "Checking In, Checking Out."  Thank you, Nancy!

May 2004
05-02.   This is the sixth anniversary of the fanfiction recommendation project.  This month, it features Maureen Wynn's 1996 story "Grace."  Thank you, Maureen!

April 2004
04-01.   The concordance now includes more lines from "Fatal Mistake."  The Urs FAQ now notes Kristin Lehman's work on the short-lived CBS series Century City.  And for the month of April, I recommend Jill Kirby's fanfiction vignette, "Come Down in Time."  Thank you, Jill!

March 2004
03-01.   I corrected a typo in a "Capitol Offense" quotation in the concordance.  April French's "Christmastime in the City" is this month's fanfiction recommendation.  Thank you, April!

February 2004
02-01.   This month, the fanfiction recommendation project spotlights Catherine Boone's vignette "One Man's Freedom."  Thank you, Catherine!

January 2004
01-01.   The concordance now includes many more quotations from "Hunters," plus three new categories.  I corrected Officer Norma Ellis's last name in my fiction "In the Light of Day," per the DVD of "Hunters" (I had mistaken it as "Lewis").  And the new year of fanfiction recommendations opens with Susan M. Garrett's "Paternal Order," which stars Captain Reese.  Thank you, Susan!

2003

December 2003
12-17.   I updated two links among the recommendations, and deleted the works-in-progress section from the fiction index.  If you're interested in an upcoming story, or would like to assist as a test audience, please email me.   12-01.   You have considered the DVDs as holiday gifts, haven't you?  For readers curious about other readers' choices, the fiction and poetry indexes now include a count of the total responses each work has received over the years.  I corrected an internal-linking problem in the Tracy and Urs FAQs.  And for December, the recommendation project features Bonnie Pardoe's Christmas tale "Silver Bells."  Thank you, Bonnie!

November 2003
11-01.   The DVDs have arrived, and guess what?  They're uncut!  Be sure to buy a set.  My third-season novel "In the Light of Day" now appears with the fiction.  Amanda Berendt's "Nevermore" fanfiction "Alone" is November's recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, Amanda!

October 2003
10-20.   I added Kristin Lehman's Andromeda appearance to the "Urs FAQ" and corrected a typo in the "Canon/Crusades Alignment" (both reference works).  Please note that the old "lanminds.com" domain on which this site resided until late 2001, and which has since mirrored its content, has now finally stopped functioning.  Please update any links and bookmarks/favorites still directed to the old domain.   10-01.   Remember, this month the DVDs finally premiere!  Have you ordered yours?  The quotation concordance now offers sections on Myra Schanke and hobbies/leisure.  For October, the fanfiction recommendation highlights Jarvinia's "Food for the Soul."  Thank you, Jarvinia!

September 2003
09-01.   This month's fanfiction recommendation is S.W. Smith's "Fire or Fire."  Thank you, S.W.!

August 2003
08-23.  I added a new resource to the reference index: a "Canon/Crusades Alignment."  Forever Knight's canon dictates an odd window for Nick's activities as a Crusader.  For a novel, I wanted to know exactly what history fit in that opening.  That research produced this list.  I hope you find it as interesting as I have.  Additionally, I began converting the site from left-aligned Times Roman to justified Garamond.  What do you think of the new look?   08-11.  As the news headline on the index page says, Sony has scheduled FK's DVD release for October 21!  Consult their "Upcoming Releases" page.  They list first-season's DVD running time at 1046 minutes, which provides 47.5 minutes per episode.  The question is, is that with no extra features, thus yielding the original Canadian airing or even the famously long German edition?  Or do extras pad out the sliced-up SciFi Channel version or even the notoriously short original US airing?   08-02.  My new first-season poem "The Coming Choice" appears on the poetry index.   08-01.  The concordance now includes lines from "Sons of Belial."  The recommendation project spotlights Lizbetann's flashback fanfiction "Mad About You" this month.  Thank you, Lizbet!

July 2003
07-01.  I modified the index page news headline to reflect TVShowsOnDVD.com's report that "Columbia TriStar has confirmed an expected release of [Forever Knight's] first season before Halloween."  Here's hoping!  The concordance now includes "Dead Air."  And for July, I recommend Lisa McDavid's 1993 fanfiction "Coming Across."  Thank you, Lisa!

June 2003
06-14.
I added an "author's choice" logo to the fiction index listings of my three favorite stories.  I also deleted the twelve chapter TXT files for the novel "Fireweed;" please read the one consolidated HTML file from now on.   06-01.  The concordance includes an additional exchange from "Capital Offense."  June's fanfiction recommendation is Susan M. Garrett's seminal novel False Heart.  Thank you, Susan!

May 2003
05-26.  The FTP Site -- the original fkfic-l archive -- has moved to the Web.  I've redirected the relevant links on this site, both on the links list and among the recommendations.  I also removed the item advertising the FK crew jacket auction.  It sold for $1,600.   05-16.  Susan M. Garrett, author of the second authorized FK novel and a wondrous plethora of fanfiction, is selling her official FK crew jacket on eBay.  Please bid a worthy price!  I have never before advertised sale items on this site, and I don't intend to make a habit of it, but I added a note announcing this auction on this site's index page.   05-05.  I added a line to this site's index page honoring Sony's Columbia TriStar division's exciting description of Forever Knight as a property "coming soon to DVD," as revealed on Davis DVD.  Despite the vagueness of "coming soon," and the current absence of this information from Sony's own site, this news is encouraging.  I eagerly await the opportunity to purchase FK from Sony!  I think three copies of the series would be optimal -- one to watch, one to lend, and one to save.   05-04.  My new vignette "What It's Like" appears on the fiction index.   05-01.  I added "Dead Issue" to the FK concordance (a reference work).  And Megan Hull's vignette "Hell" is May's featured recommendation.  Thank you, Megan!

April 2003
04-01.  I relocated the recommendation-of-the-month stories archived on this site.  If you have a direct link to one of those eleven stories, please insert "byothers" into the previous URL (for example, http://users.LMI.net/akr/fk/fiction/byothers/story.txt).  Also, the FK concordance (a reference work) expanded with material from "Father Figure."  James K.W.'s second-season story "Just in Memory" is April's featured fanfiction.  Thank you, James!

March 2003
03-17.
With the editor/publisher's permission, I posted my stories from the 1999 charity fanzine Tojours Lacroix.  Find "Billets Doux" and "Whence the Truce" on the fiction index.  I also deleted the references to the "FK Zine List," having confirmed that all the fanzines in which my work appeared are out of print.   03-08.  I checked the essential links list, and corrected one that had broken.  Additionally, the fiction index now recommends Mary Anne Espenshade's "FK Zine List" as a resource for fanzines, as www.fanfic.com has closed.   03-01.  March offers the parody "Someplace Weird" by Lisa Prince as its fanfiction recommendation.  Thank you, Lisa!

February 2003
02-02.
The FK concordance (a reference work) now includes more material from "A More Permanent Hell," and a few lines from "Capital Offense."  February's recommendation-of-the-month spotlights Eve Dutton's post-"Last Knight" fanfiction "Here to Stay."  Thank you, Eve!

January 2003
01-02.  The "Janette FAQ" is finally available in HTML!  Additionally, I substantially revised the content for the first time since 1997.   01-01.  The FK concordance (a reference work) now includes "Baby, Baby."  Kathy Whelton's "Dark Knight"-based fanfiction "Just Passing Through" is January's featured recommendation.  Thank you, Kathy!

2002

December 2002
12-01.  A few lines from "Hunters" expand the FK concordance (a reference work).  "Last Call at the Sunset Grill" by Tim Phillips rounds out 2002's monthly fanfiction recommendations.  Thank you, Tim!

November 2002
11-02.  I added illustrations to the "What is FK?" essay primer.  11-01.  "Pity the Child" by Bonnie Rutledge is November's featured fanfiction recommendation.  Thank you, Bonnie!  I also added Ben Bass's recent appearance on Monk to the Vachon FAQ (find it with the references).

October 2002
10-06.  "Another Officer Vetter," my piece from Barbara Vetter's perspective, now appears with the fiction.  10-05.  I replaced the site's color scheme with a new blue, and recrafted the core graphics to match.  What do you think?  10-01.  I retitled the still-in-progress quotation directory as the "Concordance" and added some material from "Avenging Angel" (find it with the references).  October spotlights Perri Smith's "Our Revels Now are Ended" as the fanfiction recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, Perri!

September 2002
09-02.  The Tracy FAQ (with the references) includes new trivia about her Ford Taurus.  09-01.  Sandra Gray's "Lust for Blood" is September's fanfiction recommendation.  Thank you, Sandra!

August 2002
08-25.  My Nick poem "Someone Like Me" now appears on the poetry index, and I've added some miscellaneous material to the quotations.  08-05.  The Canadian premium cable channel SPACE begins airing FK again on September 3, and thus earns a slot among the most essential links.  Thank you, SPACE!  08-01.  Susan M. Garrett allowed me to recommend her "Knight in Hell" for August.  Thank you, Susan!   The fiction index now lists my Natalie vignette, "Puzzles."

July 2002
07-01.  July features Catherine Boone's "My Soul to Keep" as the month's recommendation.  Thank you, Catherine!  My Natalie and Nick vignette "A Matter of Time" now appears on the fiction index.

June 2002
06-17.  The recommendation of G.M. Baxter's "The Price of Silence" now includes a "More by this Author" link to her Gormenghast fanfiction.  06-02.  Bonnie Rutledge's "Words and Meanings" is June's recommendation-of-the-month.  Thank you, Bonnie!  The quotations now encompass "Cherry Blossoms."

May 2002
05-01.  May brings Valerie Meachum Kessler's "Icebreaking" to the recommendation project.  Thank you, Valerie!  I added some "Dead of Night" material to the quotations with the references.

April 2002
04-02.  I modified the Divia FAQ file type from "html" to "htm" and deleted some links in an attempt to frustrate certain search engines.  (It embarrasses me that that, of all things, tops the Google search on my name.  I have a perfectly nice personal home page, and wish the search engines would point there instead!)   04-01.  The references now include my new "Quotations Directory."  Obviously a work in progress, it should expand by at least one episode's worth of quotations each month.  For April, I recommend G.M. Baxter's fanfiction "The Price of Silence."  Thank you, G.M.!

March 2002
03-23.  I redirected the appropriate fanfiction and awards links to Nancy Kaminski's new site.  03-02.  Mary Chamberlain's novel "Candle in the Shadows of Time" is March's recommendation.  Thank you, Mary!  The SciFi Channel will begin showing FK again in April; refer to the links for directions to their site and schedule.

February 2002
02-16.  I added Don Fasig's indispensable "List Gardener" page to the links list.  02-01.  For February, I recommend Apache's "Distant Thunder."  Thank you, Apache!  The links list now includes "Knight Vision," Kristin Harris's extensive FK graphics and videos archive.

January 2002
01-02.  The year's first fanfic recommendation is Nancy Kaminski's "The Path."  Thank you, Nancy!

2001

December 2001
12-26.  I converted the main index buttons to the "mural" graphic.  What do you think?  I also moved my poems from the fiction index to the new poetry index.  12-02.  Susan M. Garrett's Christmas tale "Coin of the Realm" rounds out 2001's recommendations.  Thank you, Susan!

November 2001
11-03.  November features Jill Kirby's vignette "Unto Dust" as the month's recommendation. Thank you, Jill!

October 2001
10-28.  I corrected some broken links among the recommendations, and introduced a new format to manage the recommendation indices.  What do you think?  10-27.  I added my stories "Not the Mothering Type" (a serious, canonical tale) and "Grievances" (a quick, satiric vignette) to my fiction page.  10-01.  For October, I recommend Celeste Hotaling-Lyon's comedy "The Battle of Hastings."  Thank you, Celeste!  I added a note about the FK fanfiction FTP archive to its entry on the links page; if you have difficulty accessing FTP sites, it may be your firewall.  Please note that this site no longer resides on the "lanminds.com" domain, but at "LMI.net" -- if you're still seeing "lanminds.com," please update your link or bookmark/favorite.

September 2001
09-01.  For September, the recommendation-of-the-month project features M.E. Orive's vignette "Ne-m'oubliez-pas."  Thank you, M.E.!  The timeline now lists the "Queen of Harps" flashbacks solidly at 1225; I had an opportunity to look at a copy of the shooting script.

August 2001
08-02.  I replaced the Word copies of the Timeline and Episode List on the references page with Acrobat copies.  08-01.  August's recommendation-of-the-month is "BloodThirst," a novella by Russet McMillian.  Thank you, Russet!  I added easily downloadable/printable copies of the Timeline and Episode List to the references page, and also switched to a richer -- and hopefully more easily readable -- blue color scheme with matching graphics As always, I welcome opinions on the change.

July 2001
07-21.  I redesigned the main index page to fit more easily on more screens.  I welcome any opinions on the layout change.  I also corrected the link to the classic Knighties affiliation homepage -- now maintained by Desiree -- on the links page.   07-01.  "Buried Secrets," a vignette by Kathy "Yello96," is July's featured fanfic.  Thank you, Kathy!

June 2001
06-02.  This June, I recommend Dorothy Elggren's novella "Out of the Silence."  Thank you, Dorothy!

May 2001
05-12.  I added to my fiction page the 2000 FK Community Fanfic Award kindly voted to my poem "At Issue."  Thank you, all!  Please visit the FK Awards Project from my list of essential FK links.  05-01.  Sarah Baker's "The Tapestry" is my May fanfiction recommendation of the month.  Thank you, Sarah!

April 2001
04-22.  I added the WB's Felicity to the brief list of Kristen Lehman's credits in the Urs FAQ, and also whittled down the "Fanfic Recommendations" button on the index page for improved alignment.  04-01For April, I recommend Susan M. Garrett's first FK fanfiction piece, "All That's Best of Dark and Bright."  Thank you, Susan!

March 2001
03-11.  I updated the link to the 2000 FK Fanfiction Awards and corrected two broken links among the 2000 fanfic recommendations and one in the Urs FAQ I applied to list this site on the FK fanfiction webring.  03-03.  Newly re-edited, James K.W.'s "To the Victor Go" is my March recommendation of the month.  Thank you, James!

February 2001
02-21.  I repaired the plain-text navigational bars in the fiction and FAQs.  02-20.  I added my story "Kindred Spirits" to my fiction page.  The tale features Nick, Urs, Natalie and Lacroix, among others.  02-10.  I inserted JavaScript into most of the site's pages to more closely control frames, ensuring that the pages meant to be seen with frames, and those meant to be seen alone, will all appear as intended.  As always, if this causes any accessibility problems, please let me know and I will do my best to repair them.   02-02.  I added some plain-text navigational bars to the substantive content pages, and brought the colors of the links in those documents into line with the rest of the site.  02-01.  This month, I recommend "Sadness, in a Minor Key" by Diane Harris.  Thank you, Diane!

January 2001
01-14.  I employed frames to make navigating the fanfiction recommendations simpler and more convenient.  All links exiting the recommendations should override the frames, preventing any instances of getting "trapped."   01-07.  I made a start on some of the reformatting I have in mind for the site, implementing the new color scheme and some new graphics.  Comments?  Please tell me what you think.   01-01.  As we begin the new millennium, I recommend Apache's fanfic "Accidents."  Thank you, Apache!

2000

December 2000
12-29.  The WYSIWYG program I received as a gift helped me begin the very first stages of a facelift for the entire site, immensely speeding what I've been doing manually -- writing code in Notepad -- all this time.  More importantly, it rooted out some embarrassing spelling errors.  Oh, dear; how long had those been lurking there?  12-06.  Maria Wiberg's "Valley of Death" is my fanfic recommendation this December.  Thank you, Maria!

November 2000
11-23.  I adjusted the date assigned "Forward into the Past" on the Timeline, mindful of that episode's multiple temporal inconsistencies.  Nick contradicts himself within two sentences about when he first met the Barringtons.  I removed the color backgrounds from the FAQs for making them awkward to read.  11-18.  I noted Lisa Ryder's work on Andromeda in the Tracy FAQ, and enhanced some graphics and formatting throughout the site for greater readability and faster downloading.  I also repaired the Timeline's coding.  11-01.  This November, my recommendations page features Sandra Gray's fanfic "To a New Day."  Thank you, Sandra!

October 2000
10-01.  For October, I recommend Jill Kirby's fanfic "More Fiercely Bright."  Thank you, Jill!  I also placed several text sections and lists from this site's index pages in tables with solid navy backgrounds to enhance readability.

September 2000
09-04.  Cindy Ingram's "The Shadow Lengthens" is my September fanfic recommendation.  Thank you, Cindy!

August 2000
08-01.  August's featured fanfic is Thomas's "Serpent's Tooth."  Thank you, Thomas!

July 2000
07-25.  I added my Nick poem "At Issue" to my fanfiction page.  07-09.  A new analysis of "coming across" in FK appears on my essay page.  I corrected an erroneous assertion in the Screed FAQ; Tracy does employ the word "sewer" on screen in BB2.  I also made small additions to the Tracy and Urs FAQs and lightened the backgrounds of all the FAQs.  07-03.  I divided the recommendations page by year to decrease loading time and reformatted the index to better feature the current text.  07-02.  Nancy Kaminski's "Remnants of a Life" is my July fanfic recommendation.  Thank you, Nancy!

June 2000
06-06.  I posted June's fanfic-of-the-month, Erika Wilson's "The Rekindling."  Thank you, Erika!

April 2000
04-09.  In addition to revising the brief descriptions on my fanfic page, I added my Natalie interlude "Time Out for the Living."  04-02.  Leslie GrantSmith's "Something the Boy Said" is my April fanfic recommendation of the month.  Thank you, Leslie!  I also added Tracy's license-plate number to her FAQ and introduced the Episode List.  04-01.  Hoping for a smoother appearance, I replaced the button graphics on the index page and the horizontal rules throughout the site.  I also updated the FK Community Fanfiction Awards entry on the link list.

March 2000
03-01.  This month, I recommend Susan Garrett's fanfic "Justice, Being Blind."  Thank you, Susan!  Sadly, I had to delete the link to the Vachon Library; its proprietor came to believe no one was reading the stories or contacting the authors archived there, and closed the site.

February 2000
02-01.  My fanfic recommendation this month spotlights Kathy Whelton's "But I Might . . .."  Thank you, Kathy!

January 2000
01-30.  I reformatted the index to my novella "Fireweed," aligning it with the appearance of the other fiction pages and adding a full-length HTML option to the by-chapter text listing.  01-01.  Elisabeth Hurst's "Revenge" is my first fanfic recommendation for the year 2000.  Thank you, Elisabeth!

1999

December 1999
12-01.  Mary Combs's "Eve of All Saints" is my December fanfic recommendation of the month.  Thank you, Mary!

November 1999
11-19.  The Screed and Bourbon FAQ now includes Vachon and Tracy's remarks about Screed from "Let No Man Tear Asunder."  My thanks to C. Puerro for pointing out the omission!  11-01.  "Heart Within the Beast" by Lisa McDavid joins my recommendation-of-the-month list.  Thank you, Lisa!  I also reformatted the main index and added an exploration of Natalie's memory loss to the essay page.

October 1999
10-11.  I initiated the essay page.  10-10.  I reformatted this "What's New" page for monthly reference.  10-01.  "Our Puppets" by Susan Bennett became my October FK fanfic recommendation of the month.  Thank you, Susan!  I also replaced the illustration accompanying "Guitars and Roses," added the new movie Dog Park to Kristin Lehman's brief filmography in the Urs FAQ and revised miscellaneous minor formatting elements of the site.

September 1999
09-05.  In addition to listing my past fanzine stories on my fiction page, I added my Janette and Nick poem "Longer Than The Medicis."  09-04.  I checked and updated the links list, adding the classic "Forever Knighties!" page and a direct line to the SciFi Channel Schedulebot (programmed for North America, Pacific time).  09-01.  I listed Sharon Scott's "Caroline" as my FK fanfic recommendation of the month for September.  Thank you, Sharon!

August 1999
08-15.  I added this "What's New?" page.  08-01.  I listed Calla Puerro's "Sangria" as my FK fanfic recommendation of the month for August.  Thank you, Calla!

July 1999
07-01.  I moved the various subsections of the site from the front page to their own URLs.  I also listed James K.W.'s "Eyes of a Child" as my FK fanfic recommendation of the month for July.  Thank you, James!

June 1999
06-01.  I listed Valerie Meachum's "Color of the Night" as my FK fanfic recommendation of the month for June.  Thank you, Valerie!

May 1999
05-25.  I added the Grateful Dead/Woodstock reference from "Dying for Fame" to the timeline.  The remark may or may not have been made in jest -- certainly, the "flashbacks" are nightmares, not real memories -- and that is why I had previously omitted it from the timeline.  However, when I added the "Dark Knight II" and "Unreality TV" references to Lacroix's past -- again, unsubstantiated -- consistency demanded the DFF reference as well.  05-22.  I added my Nick and Lacroix story "That Ain't Love" to my fiction page.  05-01.  I initiated my "Fanfic Recommendation of the Month" project with Susan Garrett's "Peerless Pressure."  Thank you, Susan!

WHAT IS FK?
