TOPIC:
Art of Social Commentary

OBJECTIVE:
Expose students to contemporary art of social commentary

LITERACY:
Field trip to YBCA gallery where there is a show of California artists' commentary on Pres. Bush and War in Iraq.
-students will be required to read the show catalogue, take notes and do journal sketches and reflection about art as well as how the show is curated.

HOMEWORK:
begin initial sketches for your commentary piece for Armistice Fair Student Show.

 

TOPIC:
Art of Social Commentary (cont'd)

OBJECTIVE:
students will begin work on their Social Commentary piece for Armistice Fair show.

LITERACY:
-brief slide show and lecture with note taking on art of social commentary.
-discussion of student's notes from field trip

HOMEWORK:
-work on individual piece for Armistice Fair Student Show.

 

TOPIC:
Curating

OBJECTIVE:
-Reveal winner of Armistice fair Post Card Show
-students will work together as a class to finesse details of Post Card Show design, and establish what materials will be needed to "hang" the show.

LITERACY:
-students will reference notes from field trip about how show was curated in order to finesse details of Post Card show design

HOMEWORK:
keep working on individual piece for Armistice Fair Student Show.

TOPIC:
Community Violence:
Guest speaker

OBJECTIVE:
students be informed about community resources and conflict resolution.

LITERACY:
-note taking and questioning of guest speaker

HOMEWORK:
-By Monday all students are required to visit a local community outreach venue and ask if they may post a flyer for the Armistice Fair. Find out if there are any art programs or counseling available. Write down names numbers, programs, etc. Invite anyone you like to Armistice Fair.

-students will present where they are at with their individual pieces

HOMEWORK:
By Monday you must be decided about content, have final sketches and describe execution of individual social commentary piece for Armistice Fair Student Show
