Catch the Wave: Tracing the movement of a stimulus as an impulse along a nerve

OBJECTIVE:
SWBAT explain how the impulse travels along nerves and thereby communicates information.

LITERACY:
-Scientific reading and writing literacy skills will be developed through reading apprenticeship program.
-Oral literacy skills will also be developed through frequent discussion of the specifics of the underlying chemical processes.

TOPIC:
The Reflex Arc

OBJECTIVE:
SWBAT explain how the reflex arc quickly converts a sensory stimulus impulse into an involuntary motor response by bypassing the brain.

LITERACY:
- Scientific method literacy skills will be paramount today, as students develop hypotheses, conduct experiments, and ultimately test them.
- Scientific reading and writing literacy skills will be developed through reading apprenticeship approach to text materials.

OBJECTIVE:
SWBAT write a short paragraph describing the many functions of the cerebrum. SWBAT label the names and primary functions associated with various lobes of the cerebrum.

- Scientific reading and writing literacy skills will be the primary focus today, as teacher works through difficult text materials with students in an apprenticeship environment. q - Artistic literacy skills will also be developed, as students create small 3D models of cerebral activity centers.
